how do you set the maximum amount of sprites higher then 1650?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-08-10 at 03:53:53
Wait... you're talking about units right? Go into SF Master Settings and just set max units to like 2000. Haven't test it yet though, to see if it works.

no sprites.. should i do it in scm draft 2?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gowr on 2004-08-10 at 08:30:21
Isn't the max units in the game "population" to have 200? Can you go over 200?

If you mean the supply limit, you can only go over it with Mind Control, preplaced units, or triggers.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by iamacow on 2004-08-10 at 10:16:56
you can go over the supply limit with a trick involving some pylons owned by some high up player number.
EDIT : That might've been what you meant by preplaced units :/

Can you tell me the triggers//placement for going over the supply limit?

DT, u know what you're saying? Say I had 1650 Battlecruisers, with 1650 shadows... You realize that the "Sprite" count under your theory would make 1650 battlecruisers = 3300 sprites. And you guys have been saying that the maximum is 2048. WTF, can we get one definitive explanation from like Bolt or something?

*Edit* When you say doodad you don't mean stuff like bridges and stuff do you?

Lol. If you had 1650 Battlecruisers, some of them would not have a shadow, and they would not fire. The sprite limit would be really imposing on them wink.gif

Doodad: Yes, it includes bridges and stuff. They are all sprites.

Yes I can.

Test map made in SCXE:

250 doodads with a sprite
198 preplaced marines
triggers to spawn a potentially unlimited number of battle cruisers.

Every single battle cruiser created had both jet exhausts and a shadow.

1368 battlecruisers were created.

Total: 250 + 198 + 1368 = 1816. This is 232 short of the 2048 limit, if it is such, I assume to prevent the units from all being unable to attack. I haven't tested whether the battlecruisers can attack yet.

EDIT: I stopped ordering them to move (via a trigger, allowing them to spawn) and moved them manually and 130 more spawned mellow.gif

Hmmm. Soooo.... WTF. Who is right? Who is wrong? So many questions now... If you got 1368 bc's with shadows and jet exhaust, assuming everything is a sprite, then wtfage! That would account for over 5000 sprites. Earlier you stated that the sprite limit was 2048. You people are all different. What constitutes a sprite as ummm... a sprite? Perhaps there are different "types" of sprites? I'll wait for your answers. Here is the tone of them:

-You'll come boasting that you know so much about sprites
-You'll tell us everything you know about them
-There will be 5 other people saying different things

Bolt you gotta do a big section on sprites my friend!

I maxed it at 1496 this time with 205 preplaced units: totalling 1701 units confused.gif

Hmm.

1. The sprite limit is more then 2048.
2. Shadows aren't sprites (which they are...)
3. Shadows not included in sprite max???

I asked my knowledgeable friend who's done research into SC's graphics. The shadows and engine flares and "fire" animation (eg BC has a little orange puff, ghost brings his gun up then down) are all linked to the main unit sprite and don't take up sprite slots) Probably cause they move with the unit, unlike attacks which move seperate from the unit.

even if you could do this, wouldnt the lag on bnet be unbearable?

Only if you have a slow comp / connection.
Here, let me share with ch00 the glories of my father's computer (not the one I'm using right now)

P4 2.8GHz 800 cpu
256MB GeForce-6800 (Can you say holy censored.gif ?) Hee hee, I can say censored.gif !
SB Audigy 2
1536MB RD-RAM (3 512MB sticks)
2x120GB Hard Drives
A lot of other crap

Total Cost: Only about $2750 SUCKERS!
Oh yes, factor in the 21" monitor and 6.1 surround sound, and you're looking at a sexy gaming rig. 3mb/sec cable (comcast) makes MP a snap!

My favorite quote (mine! get your own!) "I didn't get cable to watch other people lag!"

damn this is all confusing. B4 I came in here i didn't know what a sprite was, and I think I have an idea now. So wouldn't a marine walking as opposed to a maring standing still, even be a sprite?

also i dun knw much about computers but i know my dads has 4.1 surround sound umm 400 or 500 gb of memory 21" monitor or bigger cz ithing he got a new one but he said alot of the single parts in there were over $1000, he is a genius when it comes to computers. He likes to make his own

*EDIT*
I am just a beginner and dun know if you already know this but a helpfull hint is when ever you aren't go to see a unit(s) anymore tell the triggers to remove it... no point in having guys still there after ur done with them.

Thanks for the tip, thats more of just good advice for the atmosphere and usage of units within a map, than a Trick or Trigger System. Still every little counts.

Sprites are not units, just to put if basic, its most things you can't click on that make a picture or such on your screen or within the Starcraft Game Engine itself.

A sprite is essentially nothing more than a graphic that moves independently from others on the screen, usually an animation. If you are familiar with the Win32 API, the BitBlt function is a common way of drawing sprites for simplistic games (DirectX is used for more complicated ones).

I think you are confusing memory with disk space. 400GB of memory doesn't even exist in servers, let alone in consumer PCs happy.gif

I think he was joking.
Also, you could always downclock your CPU if you absolutely need to simulate a slower computer.
Isn't SCMDraft a program? How can a program "lag"? confused.gif
I'm becoming more and more confused each time I read this, so I'm going to stop typing now smile.gif

the screen can lag behind the mouse for example wink.gif
also, my cpu has minimum speed of way too much for downclocking to be any use, also would still have a nice graphics card and stuff.
