Like some hobos from SC.org are going to make a sequel to blizzard game?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShizTheresABear on 2006-11-14 at 14:41:32
StarCraft: Ghost was announced like..5 years ago. It was supposedly supposed to come out in March 2006, but Blizzard cancelled it.

lol...in that trailer I have, it says: "Coming 2003" biggrin.gif

Blizzard will shut it down soon enough. I wouldn't even get my hopes up.

I agree, more than any project of this sort (like Dark Nova for example), this one would put Blizzard into action. Too bad that SC.ORG is a Blizzard certified fansite...

Its not Starcraft 2. Its " a new expansion for Starcraft."

A fanciful dream, nothing more. I'll put my minerals into the pot! Who wants to bet against me?

I don't hold much hope for this project to succeed, but shouldn't we help them instead of mocking them?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-11-14 at 16:27:53
I'm a bit too busy to do any of the things needed. And I don't like wasting my time on something that will never work.

I would agree with this on one condition - someone convinces me that Blizz won't move against this project at some point. This is the major, and only, obstacle with such projects I think.

And the complexity of the project, handled by people who aren't very experienced and aren't paid.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-11-14 at 17:11:47
Starcraft is a copyrighted trademark.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-11-14 at 17:13:36
This is a secondary difficulty, which is common for all serious projects. Some are abandoned simply because the complexity of the task is above the skills of the team. This was the case with Vista, when it was still called Longhorn - it was supposed to be an WinXP extension, but the programmers fail to maintain the whole system of features that were planned, and thus must've been rewritten from scratch (or so I heard).

ok to get you guys up to date i will respond to most of your comments, oh and first i must say i'm sorry this is an expansion no StarCraft 2 and it runs off the StarCraft engine.

QUOTE
4) Legally, they cannot make a sequel to Starcraft or an expansion to it. Blizzard has trademark and copyright ownership over these titles, they'd receive a letter to stop all productions in 48 hours, else they'd be forced to take legal action. Blizzard doesn't really care about the Terms of Agreement to a minor extent, but they have taken action before.

this is actually incorrect, the game is a huge mod and with the mod will include a story and maps...this is to no extent illegal. Blizzard lets us make mods, and they gave us the campaign editor to make maps. this is stated here:

QUOTE
Blizzard don't mind people making maps, Blizzard don't mind people making mods,

QUOTE
This is retarded if it's working off the starcraft engine. Besides the main reason Starcraft got as big as it did was battlenet. Can't play this SC2 mod on BNet no point in playing.

i find this statement incorrect, being able to play with different units and new tilesets, even on the starcraft engine, would be incredibly fun to me. and with your second statement i would disagree also, most of the fun of StarCraft came to the fun and well thought out story.

QUOTE
3) Do you know the number of people that worked on Starcraft alone? Just look at the credits, there's a very large amount of people that worked for over 3 years straight at least 8 hours per day, possibly more. Do you think these people have the man hours it takes to finish?

do you know how many people are registered to StarCraft.org? but yes i do agree with this, but better being done in years, then not being done at all.

QUOTE
SC 1.5 is being created by a friend of mine. Youve probobly all heard of Project Revolution. ITS NEVER BEING FINISHED. Project Revolution is dead, and so my friend on WCIII Marty_Mc_Fly@Azeroth has made WCIII maps that are total SC conversions within the map. That is SC 1.5.

yes i would say that this would be much better than the current project, but if this is never finished then this project wins.

QUOTE
The projects far better being getting off the ground with a different engine from the original starcraft engine thats practically 14 years old.

all i can say is do you still play off starcraft? and plus starting with the starcraft engine gives them a few advantages: tilesets, sprites, and units.

QUOTE
Anyone want to start a mineral pot on how long until they give up?

i almost can't believe you guys wouldn't support such a cause that Blizzard definately isn't up to and perhaps this project may just give blizzard the influence to make a new one, two reasons to support the project.

QUOTE
I doubt Blizzard wants it to happen :\

why wouldn't they? someone else doing it for them? hell why not? even if they don't get the money they can create a new engine with the same story, or even create Starcraft 2

QUOTE
Our Modding Team/Forums wouldn't mind contributing if they are extremly serious on this

that would be great! and yes they are very serious

if they work together well enough then they could just possibly get the project done.

BTW: if you guys check out the site, i consider you guys to notice all the fanfiction, Art, and customs on that website.

with this been said i'll let you guys off, if i forgot something tell me.

Under no content does it state that it is just going to be a very big mod.

QUOTE
3. New unit, research, critter, tileset and doodad ideas (new engine).

A new engine only means that the game code that handles data is going to be redone.
As far as I know, new tilesets cannot be created via a mod.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SomeIdiotNerd on 2006-11-14 at 21:25:38
copyright is only an issue in this case if anyone makes any money off of it. For example: Star Trek New Voyages is a fan based television show and they are legally allowed to make episodes as long as they don't sell them.

there ya go

Also blizzard only goes after emulators of WoW servers legally. I doubt they would care in the slightest about this project, ever... even if it was looking promising.

It's not earning any money and it's not taking any of their potential earnings.. unlike WoW server emulators.
