Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> StarCraft 2 - IN THE MAKING!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SomeIdiotNerd on 2006-11-13 at 20:14:55
the staff and people at StarCraft.org are putting together a team, of any members at the website, to a SC 2 project!!! Consider joining, for there are many fields in which they require attention. Here is the quote:

QUOTE
"ATTENTION TO ALL STARCRAFT.ORG MEMBERS!!!

A small group of people are carrying out a little campaign to make a dream come true: a new expansion for Starcraft. However, this is a project that requires a lot of minds working together, and the small group behind it is looking for people to help out in the folowing fields:

1. Fanfic writers (storyline)
2. Map makers (campaign and melee maps)
3. New unit, research, critter, tileset and doodad ideas (new engine).
4. Sketchers, 2D and 3D renderers (unit concepts).
5. Comic makers (cinematic and campaign storyboards).
6. 3D animators (cinematics)
7. Voice casting (once we get the storyline finished).
8. Good modders (we need guys who know how to create new units, tilesets, etc.)
9. Good gamers (testers)
10. Musicians (we want 2 new tracks for each race).

This is a dream that can be achieved if we all work together. If you´re interested in contributing, PM Haladras, mutalisk332 or ProphetofChaos for points 1 and 2; ITSTORRASQUE4U, PharaZon or InsaneExecutor for points 3, 4 and 10; and DoctorTerabyte or Flametrooper for points 8 and 9.

All other points can be PM´d to any of the previously mentioned. Let´s make this real, or as my trusted friend the Battlecruiser Commodore would say:

MAKE IT HAPPEN."

BEWARE MARINES, TUSKS AHEAD

Please consider contributing!!!

Our Modding Team/Forums wouldn't mind contributing if they are extremly serious on this.

Sounds good but I don't think it will get off the ground.

I'm going to leave it in Misc. for a while so it generates interest, then I might move it to Games.

I saw this yesterday. I'd love to help write the stories and maybe even sharpen the dialogue, but my current commitments leave me with little free time. sad.gif

Well, if PR ever comes out, that'll shoot it down pretty good.

I'd love to help write out a story/plot for this project but... I doubt it's gonna get done.

The projects far better being getting off the ground with a different engine from the original starcraft engine thats practically 14 years old.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by synd][cate on 2006-11-14 at 03:27:38
This is retarded if it's working off the starcraft engine. Besides the main reason Starcraft got as big as it did was battlenet. Can't play this SC2 mod on BNet no point in playing.

Any game that is not a major retail game is not gonnna get anywhere.

People have told me before that I am a skeptic tongue.gif

SC 1.5 > This.

SC 1.5 is being created by a friend of mine. Youve probobly all heard of Project Revolution. ITS NEVER BEING FINISHED. Project Revolution is dead, and so my friend on WCIII Marty_Mc_Fly@Azeroth has made WCIII maps that are total SC conversions within the map. That is SC 1.5.

I'll laugh if blizzard made some starcraft related thing after that.

Puts minerals into the pot.

Logic tells me that this project won't be finished for a few reasons.

1) These people aren't going to be working together in the same place. This means that it'll be much harder to coordinate, share ideas and work together. Let's wait 2 hours to get that file transfered to this other guy.

2) They have no economical means to be put into this. This means that these people will still have to go to school and/or work, giving far less time to devote to the game than your Blizzard employees.

3) Do you know the number of people that worked on Starcraft alone? Just look at the credits, there's a very large amount of people that worked for over 3 years straight at least 8 hours per day, possibly more. Do you think these people have the man hours it takes to finish?

4) Legally, they cannot make a sequel to Starcraft or an expansion to it. Blizzard has trademark and copyright ownership over these titles, they'd receive a letter to stop all productions in 48 hours, else they'd be forced to take legal action. Blizzard doesn't really care about the Terms of Agreement to a minor extent, but they have taken action before.

Beer_KeG has a strong point there. Especially on point 4. Also, making a game isnt easy guys. Making a game takes years. I mean look at Starcraft: Ghost. Its been about 2 years since they announced it and it still hasnt come out.
Even if you do manage to pull it off, it will probably be full of bugs and glitches, look real unproffesional, and will be crapy.
Please, leave it to Blizzard.
If you want, make a campaign to follow up Brood War and make a mod to go with it.

If you have WCIII i really suggest you check out SC 1.5. Its current version is at 8.5 or 9.0. Id have to check with Marty. Very very few units are missing from it at this point, and its because the WCIII map limit is 4mb. With custom skins and all Marty is at 3.99, and so things cant be added, but he is waiting on a new skin compressor from a friend of his who does programs, and when that comes out we MAY see a full SC 1.5.

Actually, it's been about for 4 years at least, as I still have an SC:G trailer from 2002.

I agree with Keg - this is one step to far. Blizzard don't mind people making maps, Blizzard don't mind people making mods, but Blizzard do mind people doing Blizzard stuff.

Kinda remind me of the old (and abandoned,[sic!]) Dark Nova project...
