I'm confused as to why one would go up to their teacher and tell them about their suicidal thoughts... I mean, I've never done that before...

In highschool, I had a teacher that I was pretty close too. She was really helpful while I was chewing my nails off waiting out my gf's pregnancy.

My dad died when I was 12, so he had little to say. But my mom, although initially distraught, showed kindness and generosity that I was very undeserving of, and she still does. I do my best everyday to repay her.
