Hey Insane... I would appreciate that you would make the terrain for the Act 1 (256x256)!

Does that mean that there will be more than one map?

Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShizTheresABear on 2007-01-22 at 21:49:22
Looks like it will be 5 separate maps...

Also, shouldn't Act IV be Ash World and not Space? From what I remember, Diablo's lair is full of fire and lava..

I got tons of ideas for this. If you got any problems, I've thought of almost everything when I started to make these.

Questions: (Questions I have countered when I was making this)
Are you going to allow dueling?
What happens when you die?
Are there difficulty settings? (Normal, Nightmare, Hell)
Are you going to allow certain hero monsters cast their spells?
Are you going to follow everything exactly? Or add a few extra things of your own?
How will certain spells be cast?
Will Main Heros(Andarial, Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal) use stronger spells when low in health?
How will you use potions? Will you use deathcounts as a base, and use zerglings burrowed under your character to keep health? (I can get this to work, it also is good for when your stamina is low happy.gif)
...
...
...

current thoughts:
Act 4 should be magma, not space.

Agreed.

If you need any ideas or anything, I would LOVE to give ideas, and help you out in fixing all of those problems above.

Yes, you can do that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by payne on 2007-01-23 at 23:09:31
Are you going to allow dueling?
-> I didn't though about that... I think no... but it could make it more interesting!
What happens when you die?
-> You lose cash, and you've got to take back your body to get your equipment again.
Are there difficulty settings? (Normal, Nightmare, Hell)
-> Yes... at start, you can select these...
> Normal = need a password
That password is gived to you at the end of the Act 4 and 5!
Are you going to allow certain hero monsters cast their spells?
-> I think yes, but still not sure... it's a lot of triggers then...
Are you going to follow everything exactly? Or add a few extra things of your own?
-> I'll change some things, but I'll try to keep in mind my promise : gonna be the most possible like the game
How will certain spells be cast?
-> Maybe with a DropShip... you unload a unit, etc...
Will Main Heros(Andarial, Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal) use stronger spells when low in health?
-> Nah...
How will you use potions? Will you use deathcounts as a base, and use zerglings burrowed under your character to keep health? (I can get this to work, it also is good for when your stamina is low)
-> I though about that :
- Probe = Life Potion
- SCV = Mana Potion
- Drone = Other potions....
To use potions, simply move them... like in Golden Knight RPG.

I have a question for people :
Do we put the endurance thing? About running and walking? Gonna be hard to reduce the speed of the unit...

Hmm I'm not offering myself for any mapping because I don't like to work on RPG maps and I think they should all be done on WC3 anyway..

but I'm an extremely elite ex-d2 player.. I just know everything about that game..

PvM is old and known by all.. but game mechanics arent..

so.. if you have ANY questions about D2 ask me, I have the answer.

If possible, I would also like to be a tester for this map.. if you need.

Well, now thinking about wat payne wants you probably wont be able to do all of the terrain in one map and basically finish the map it'self. Also payne you asked for a save/load system right? You do know its impossible if your going to recreate everything right, you have to keep track of gold/weapons/level/class.

If he wants a save/load system he should map WC3 maps..

seriously.. WC3 WAS MADE FOR RPG

starcraft is good for defense, madness, puzzle maps, bounds, arena maps, etc..

starting WC3 would be a good idea.

Okay...
The Save/Load system, I'll go it! But I'll also trust people for their equipment and these type of details... you just gonna be able to load a specific class at a specific level and that does a certain level of difficulty and has done that quests... for the rest, I'll let the people reselect their ancient equipment... if they just wanna play with a super-dooper equipment... it's their choice! Me, personally, I would do exactly the same character as I had.
For ScreenShots... there is NONE because NOBODY is doing the STUPID terrain!
When the terrain will be done for the Act 1, I'm gonna make ScreenShots.
There...
Good day!

I am trying to make some terrain to this interesting project, I'll be making three different "surface areas" for each section, that means three "Stony Fields" which then will be randomized in the beginning so we can have some flexibility between the different games. Then I will make different dungeons for every level, like two different for each level, (at least those that makes any sense).

This will result in that the map might not be that big, but it will still be different to play from time to time, so that you want to play through not once but maybe twice.
I will begin in my project tomorrow, so I'll sleep on my ideas and then we will see what will happen.
Maybe this is a too big project to make on my own, but I will begin to make rough drafts of what ever is going to be made, then I am filling up with useful things, like doodads and stuff like that.

Why do we have 5 guys on Ideas and 3.5 on Triggers? Isn't it a lot more practical for the triggerers to be coming up with the ideas since we'll be the ones implementing them?

By the way, all this stuff should be discussed in the Team Projects forum and not here at Production.

That may not be necessary. Check out what I've got so far in Majesty II. The entire map is randomized but every section of the overworld is also utilized in the randomization. Since Diablo was the first major computer game to feature this kind of randomization, using it would enhance the Diablo feel even further.

P.S. should we use something like this or this?
