As far as we know, yes.

Due to the sensitive nature of this discussion, I'm going to tell you guys the whole story, but I'm going to omit the names of the community members involved (except the common knowledge ones), because anyone involved has already suffered enough grief over the incident.

The history was a little different. So I'm going to retell it tongue.gif

Heimdal made SCU mostly for practice with the chk format and to challenge himself. He gave it to the TSE members (Team StarEdit, clan where heimdal was in, there were only heimdal and 4 members more). One of that TSE members leaked it to his best friend (lots of people do that tongue.gif) and that best friend leaked it to another friend, etc. That TSE member were expulsed.

A few days later Archn got it. Archn doesn't know a censored.gif of hexediting, so he just changed the name of the creator and of the program and released it. He had lots of contacts so in 2-3 weeks everybody had the program and thinked that Archn made it (that makes me really angry). In that age the map stealers stealed lots of maps, and map makers were really pissed off.

Then I thinked of make PROEdit, I thinked that I had enough chk knowledge and with the help of Heimdal and DrunkenWrestler (both are in the credits) I made the first alpha, and then the first beta. For the beta test I got a group of map makers, the expulsed TSE member was there too (He told me that he wasnt gonna leak it, I believed him and he didnt). But there were another one that leaked it. I never though that that map maker would leak it directly to Archn (I think that most of you know him, but I'm not gonna tell his name tongue.gif). Archn hexedited it and change the program name to ArchnPRO and the autor.

What saved PROEdit was that DrunkenWrestler told me about that Archn released a leaked version one day after he did (he was really fast) so I fixed up some things and released my Beta as public (that's why it was so buggy the first PROEdit version, I wanted to fix more things before releasing it but I couldnt). PROEdit seemed to stop map stealers, well most of them because there was a big bug that allowed people to unprotect their maps, wich was fixed in v. 1.3b, but most of the map stealers didnt know it, so it was "safe". Now versions over v1.4.0 are extremely hard to unprotect and require hexediting medium-high skills, so for now it is "safe" again.

This history wasnt really bad for me, I did learn some lessons from it and I think that heimdal and other people learnt from their mistakes too.
I still like to go to bnet and bug the two stealers tongue.gif

Well, I think that my grammar is understandable and that the history wasnt too boring, Also I wanted to note that wasnt the same stealer who leaked both programs, the stealer that leaked SCU learnt the lesson and is not gonna steal any program anymore. The only mad person there is Archn (when someone says somewhere "Archn owns, he made a program called SCUnprotect that can unprotect any map, he is a really cool person". If you are a map stealer and you use SCU atleast give the credits to the real maker! Heimdal! -.-").

Oh the irony of it all, thats what i say, its pure, almost british, irony...

ProEdit can, and always has been, open to hacking skills, by those of experienced knowledge, which isn't me at the moment, though i could give it a shot, give me two months with this course i am doing, and there you go.

The major problem lies that you really can't do to much to protect your maps, because of the way it works, too much Hex, or similar editing would mean the map couldn't be opened by Starcraft as well, or so i've always thought.

Each protection program, mainly, uses a similar form of "protection" or editing of the code to protect it, and thats what the people used to unprotect it, they get rid of that, and anything else put in to stop the opening of maps.

An interesting feature of SCMDraft 1 was that it could just about open any map you like, but it had no terrain, and no Trigger screen, but you could view the strings, made for useful practise if you wanted to see a whole map, it couldn't be saved though.

Wow, I thought Heimdal told me a long time ago that it was the same person... I guess the history has gotten muddled in my mind after so long.

I think that no matter how you go about protecting a map, it can be broken, because (as far as I know) all the information SC needs has to be in the .chk, so that means that everything is in there, the unprotector just has to figure out how to read it.

I dont think heimdal knows who leaked PROEdit. I'm the only one that knows the two stealers tongue.gif
