By the way, everyone I've asked doesn't know what a .chk file is, but you guys seem to know, what is it and what happenes if you save a map as one in X-tra editor.

the chk is actually the map itself, the raw file that a map editing program reads. If you open a scm or scx with an mpq viewer the chk is in there, along with any sounds you've put in.
Technically through hex editing you can make a map through the chk, technically you don't even need to open a map in a program to do anything to it, just extract the chk and hex edit it, but very few people know much about that to actually waste their time.
I've never saved a chk in xtra so not exactly sure wut the purpose is, but I know you couldn't play it in starcraft since starcraft reads teh entire scm or scx and not just the chk inside and not everything on the chk (thats why protection works).
