Blizzard doesn't care about map unprotection because they really don't care too much for people's maps and the community, but they DO care about their still-active melee scene since people are still having real tournaments and all, so if this got out you might end up getting their attention in the wrong sort of way.

my question is, who cares? i mean if someone makes a bad replay of you, who cares? i mean u know its not real, and second, does it matter? i mean all you have to do is look at the persons record to see if that really happend...

Um, if I check me record it dosen't say who beat me or who I beat.

I voted "Only create new replays from maps and mark them as fake somehow".

I also think it should be called RepStudio instead of ScmStudio...

Well replays have all locations, units, sprites, terrain, player actions, player screen position, and all that other junk in them. The only thing they don't have are like sounds and a couple other things.

Maybe these "tutorials" can be shown in a replay? Plus I want to screw around with unit actions and stuff since you can get units to do things and not have any error messages(like mind controll buildings, repair non-mech units, etc). Then there is that weird funky stuff you can do with the attacks, spells and triggers.

DUH i know that. but what i mean is, if i have like a record thats like 478W-35L, and someones replay shows that you act like a n00b, i think you're smart enugh to figure out the rest.

Still, some people play 7v1c.
It's just not possible unless there was an honest observer there.

If you know the person's play style, remember some people tend to goof off sometimes.

OK, just let me change my position here. Let this program be able to create new replays as well as edit them, but it must be able to mark these fabricated/edited replays as fake.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2004-09-26 at 23:23:10
I think it should be able to do anything. But it MUST have a note at the start of the replay, "Edited/created with ScmStudio by Clokr_."
BTW, ScmStudio is an awsome name tongue.gif.

RepStudios sound too much like the name of the Company...
RepStudies proudly present, ScmTools?

What! Sounds nothing like SCMToolkit...

Clokr_, I bet if you made a new poll or something that had "Edit and Create replays, but mark them as "fake" somehow"(a combination of choice 1 and 3), most people would probably choose that instead of either choices 1 and 3. I would have voted that if it was an option as well, and I'm sure most people would agree that if you can do anything as long as it's marked as 'fake' somehow, it would be approved.

You should make it so it can replay exactly what the people playing the game said. If something funny was said in a game, you could share it with a friend.

As for marking the replays as fake.. I agree that that should be included. No one likes a cheater trying to falsely prove a win in a tournament.

Also a feature that should be added, being able to host the replay in public. (This would benefit those using the scmstudio to make movies)

The only downside of this is that it would take these edited replays longer to dl.

Good luck with the SCMStudio.

Hmm, well, if you want to make a good mark, just make it save as a new file-type that's only viewable in your prgram. Unfortunately, that'll be bad for movie maps, but it will protect against peoople who try to mess with replays.
(Sorry if you can't read that (Maybe typos) I have no contacts and can't find me glasses)

Heh, I can just hear it coming: "How do I protect my replays from being stolen?"
Report, edit, etc...Posted by illusion(SS) on 2004-09-28 at 00:14:18
i have got a solution for everything! make it so you can open existing replays, BUT not be able to save. but then you can create new replays from maps. there yall go.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Basan on 2004-09-28 at 06:43:36
I don't recall who said it, but I agree more with the option of merging the 1st three of the poll. happy.gif

Altough I voted the 3rd option, 'cause almost 4 sure any1 doesn't want fake reps loose over the community... ermm.gif

Edit reason: It was DeathKnight who spoke of it... blushing.gif

Full Marks to Death Knight, thats what i would do. However mentioned making them public on battle.net, they'd likely not work? Need the program...

Yes and make replay protection too. tongue.gif

Why would they not work on Battle.net?

Oh and for you people out there that would say "Oh instead of making a replay or something why not just make a movie map?", well they are actually totally different. Movie maps have the advantage of sound, but that's about it. Replays however have much more options like the use of special abilities and everything else in Starcraft that maps can't do. I bet you could cloak any unit, anywhere, any time.

Good idea protecting the replay and why wouldn't they work on B.net? bc if that is the case, I don't care about this project anymore.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-09-28 at 18:09:56
Well, they might work on Battle.net, but need an edited version of Starcraft to work, and therefore not work with anyone else without it! You'd have to exit and rejoin in normal BW to play with them...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StarEditron 4000 on 2004-09-28 at 19:20:08
wow, a replay editor can be really dangerous in the wrong hands
(well, dangerous meaning we would be screwed)

Being able to edit replays is just not worth the risk

but being able to create new replays is fine.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-09-28 at 20:40:16
Huh? What are you guys talking about?

It WILL work on Battle.net, because it's using a replay format that EVERYBODY uses. A replay editor is fine if it somehow marks the replay as a FAKE one, like display at the beginning of the game like "Edited with ScmStudio by clokr_."
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StarEditron 4000 on 2004-09-28 at 22:33:36
yeah, but as usual, im never specific, so i'm all with deathknight.
just be careful though, the fake part could be easily hex-edited (damn hackers)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2004-09-29 at 10:42:15
whoever edits a replay - have fun, I believe it is just a mouse click log along with selections etc...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kenoli on 2004-09-29 at 12:25:57
Could ScmStudio play the replays like a movie? Im thinking you could add stuff to the replay and just do anything at all. for example If starcraft wont play sounds in a replay, it would be good to have a program that can. You would have to have the program to watch the movie but thats not bad.
Without sound you might not have a great movie, and the replay editing would probably be used to try and cheat. (or be used for alot of stupid crap)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-09-29 at 16:14:57
I'm not sure, but I THINK the reason why it usually doesn't play sound is because it can't find the sounds. The sounds would probably have to be in the replay or something. Let me test with them 0-sized sounds.
