Wow guyz thx for all your comments I have had a lot of different views upon this.
Hopefully I won't let you guyz down. Some People have already seen the work in progress, and I have had a lot of positve feedback upon it. I will show you guys some screenshots as soon as I get finished with the game engine, and start working on the scenery and stuff. Thx again for all your comments. smile.gif

It started out so well.. The text was nice with good background music. Then the ff7 music kicked in and it went downhill, wasnt that well made after the first part. I guess it served its purpose though.

I'm still curious as to how you are going to make the computer units 'know' when their hp are low =D
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-01 at 15:24:59
The best way of telling would be that Units are set to half strength and when you kill a unit that half its health gone, and therefore its half damage. Maybe for like the battles afterwards. Or else know how much damage will be done over time, within a guess range of attack and work from that.

aE[Templar] I'm only worried that the map will be riddled with grammar errors. I suggest that you make http://Dictionary.com/ your new best friend during the creation of this map, just to make sure. And yes, how will you make it so a unit ''knows'' when its hit points are low?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by aE[Templar] on 2004-11-01 at 16:10:36
well i finally have it figured out and not to release my secret just yet is does have a lot to do with stuff that will happen behind the scenes that you won't see smile.gif Eventually when i release the map 4 those of you that don't figure it out u can PM me and ill explain it smile.gif

As for the spelling mistakes. it was mainly because i rushed to get the trailer done. It was never ment to be the best trailer ever, but i just wanted to get some publicty and some feedback on the map and maybe some new ideas and such. The trailer only took me 4 hours, (2 days, 2 hours a day). Im not the best speller in the world but the trailer didn't really mean THAT much to me. Thx for all your comments.

Map Progress:

-=Game Engine: 55% Complete=-
-=AI: 23% Complete=-
-=Terrian: 5% Complete=-
-=Storyline: 88% Complete=-

Well thats how the progress is going...If you want to help me test any Just PM Me or post it here and ill probably let a few of you help test and you will get to see how the health things works probably. But as soon as the map is finished everyone will see how it works by a simple "Black sheep wall" cheat on single player mode. I don't care if ppl find out how i did it, just as long as no one finds out and uses it in their maps or something before my map is complete tongue.gif

Ok Because of some clans fighting and all the censored.gif that is going on with aEp I have decied to do away with clans and go solo. But that, of course doesn't mean that Im going to stop working on this map. My new name will be ShinRa_Solider, so if you wanna PM me on sc or anything that will be my name smile.gif

Looks good, Terrain is easy and once you get the game engine done your on easy street. I think that you need to tell us how to do this auto heal thing... Sounds good though, good reviews and such, just don't mess it up.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-03 at 13:22:55
Game Engine isn't the hardest part, and where is the Balance %? Thats what is missing from all maps everywhere...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShinRa_Soldier on 2004-11-03 at 14:43:56
Ok first thing is the respons to Paella's "I think that you need to tell us how to do this auto heal thing..." and No im not going to show anyone except the ppl that test it how i did it. Im doing this because there are a few dishonest people around here that would steal the idea and put it in some censored.gif ty map and totally ruin the whole effect of it. So don't ask anymore unless your a tester you will not see it until it comes out. After it is released I will be happy to let anyone know anything they want to know about the map, or how i did something smile.gif.

Coko: The game engine is the hardest part other than the AI. I consider balance, and unit names, as part of the game engine.

And for everyone else heres a update on the progress of the map:

-=Game Engine: 78% Complete=-
-=AI: 37% Complete=-
-=Terrian: 14% Complete=-
-=Storyline: 93% Complete=-
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Paella on 2004-11-03 at 14:53:39
Ok, I understand that you don't want to show us how to do the auto heal thing. People probably would rip it off. What can you tell us about the other elements of AI in the map? What else can the computer do that is new?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShinRa_Soldier on 2004-11-03 at 14:58:03
ok Well being that im in school right now...I will tell u as much as i can b4 i get caught and kick off the site smile.gif

AI Features are:

#1: AI Knowing when their health is low and healing themselves

#2: As seen by some of the testers, the AI follows the leader around and at certain points will form defense formations on their own.

#3: In some parts of the map the character will go off on their own to solve puzzles, Explore areas, Take down some enemies 1 on 1, And clear pathways for injured units that can't take on the enemies alone, until he gets medical aid.

#4: (Currently In thought only) Spells being casted by yourself and the computer players, only spells for status changes (Ex. Slow, Poison, Burn, ect. ect..)

Now i gtg the final bell to leave it about to ring ill post more about it when i get home smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-03 at 15:14:42
Do you mind if i then take a shot at understanding how you Auto-Heal will activate then?

My guess would be that you have a location over the Ai, which is large, to a certain size, maybe just set for Melee. And when your enemies bring units to it, it sets up a trigger, while adding to a rising Death Counter, which will go up as long as an enemy is present within the location, and drop when it isn't. Once it reaches a certain level of count your unit with Auto Heal, because soon it might die, due to you working out how much damage it will take over a period. Then it resets those death counts and continues onwards.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShinRa_Soldier on 2004-11-03 at 15:51:26
I thought about making it like that, and the way i did It is similar to what u just said but there is also a problem with what u said. The computer units are pretty close together about 80% of the time. Although that would work fine with just one person, but say the unit attack the player beside him? And the unit is at both locations. Then the computer will eventually use a unneeded heal which is wasting vaulable medical kits. With my system, its not perfect but 95% of the time the computer won't heal until he is at 150 health or lower (Out of 600-800 Hp). Also the computer won't waste unneeded heals. The only problem with my system so far is that sometime when u switch characters and when u switch the computer player already has low health, sometime the computer will not recognize it and therefore will not heal. But im currently working on the problem and it will hopefully be fixed very soon.

EDIT: I also realized that with your system it would be a lot more work than mine considering the fact that all the units will do different damage.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-03 at 17:06:54
Agreed, but likely my system would produce far more accurate results than an average set system, also i'd enable increase and decrease depending on numbers of enemy units and types, not just a set amount.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShinRa_Soldier on 2004-11-03 at 18:32:11
Well I finally worked out the last few bugs of my health system smile.gif its perfectly accurate up to 3 ppl attacking 1 person at one time. If four units are attackikng 1 person (Not tested yet), then you might have to lend him a hand or else he may not be able to heal fast enough (Because his health is going down so rapidly)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Paella on 2004-11-03 at 20:57:23
Coko, that is how I thought the system would work. I bet you it is relatively simple though. Shinra_Soldier does it involve any waits, if it does take them out.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PearS on 2004-11-03 at 21:01:04
Ya i thought about it too and came up with the method coko mentioned and if that isnt how you do it then im baffled lol.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShinRa_Soldier on 2004-11-03 at 22:53:48
No waits...Im smarter than that smile.gif pearS (My last tester) has seen how its done. Until it is released Im not going to tell anyone else. So don't ask closedeyes.gif

By the way the release date of my map Is November 27th at map night !

Report, edit, etc...Posted by PearS on 2004-11-03 at 23:08:11
These players have abilities and i assume that they have skill points (maybe mana). If this is so, will you have a method of remembering how much gas each character has so we can switch around and use several abilities in quick sucsession?
