I don't even use skill to bound anymore... I'm too lazy... I just run every obstacle pretty much. pinch.gif

Bounds these days...*siggh*
Report, edit, etc...Posted by eXiLe on 2004-11-17 at 22:01:14
A good type of bound would be a map with a mediocre level. Every time I see an impossible obstacle or insane, I would lose confidence. Why the censored.gif do people make hard maps? Can't we just make bounds that are "Beatable"?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zero on 2004-11-17 at 22:03:08
They just make hard bound to censored.gif with your head
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-11-17 at 22:08:06
Why would you want to do that? It would only demoralize bounders.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Loser_Musician on 2004-11-17 at 23:37:41
Bounds are the epitome of shallowness. Most People rate them on text/terrain/music. Which are not system trigs at all. Just scenario stuff. The only system stuff in it, is the obstacles, revives, and defeat/victory. (and maybe a banner) And a lot of people don't really care about that too much.
Now, don't get me wrong. Bounds are fun to some people. I'll give you that much. But don't try to tell me that they're hard to make. I mean, seriously. this subject is not that abstract.

Well... you could say that... memorizing patterns of explosions... but then again... why are people always dissing bounds? Lets take into example other kinds of games:
-Melee:
Memorize build times and time it takes to create units, take these units kill other units, over and over and over again until all dead.

-Defense:
Build defensive structures and units, and kill units over and over again, with the occasional memorization of a cheat =P

-Madness:
Amass an army, attack, amass an army, attack, amass an army attack... win...

-Pic Maps:
Wth? Watch, Watch, Watch, Watch, Watch...

-Movie Maps:
Watch, Watch, Watch, Laugh, Watch, Watch, Laugh...

-Impossible Scenarios:
Use units, Use magic alot... repeat...

-7v1 Comp:
Select Stargate, Press C as fast as you can... attack, repeat...

-OMFG maps:
uh... build build build, then die at the end...

-Rpg maps:
Im a hero, now I save the world from evil.. repeat...
By looking at all of these map types... we can clearly see... that ALL maps are the same old boring things... so stop to think before you dis a map... and think about all the other maps you'll be dissing...

RPG- Not all of them are the same, they can have endless possibilities on what to do, how to finish, what to play as, how you play, terrain ideas, etc.

Defense- All i say is people need to stop usuing the create, move, move, move, move... and eventually kill them, i mean as in new idea's other then move in an ordered fasion...

Melee- when you play you never know whats gunna happen, could be easy, could be implausible for you to win, you never know.

Misc- They have everything ans anything, there usually 99% absolutely different then any other map, anything could be in here...

Bounds- Simplest to make, overrated and battle.net has way to much 'bound mappers', their needs to be more quality RPG, Defense, etc.

First off I have never made and never will make a bound. Secondly, I think that the best Bound-Like map was Dance 2 the Beat by Mp(U). It was all explosion obstacles but it had a point. Too bad it never became to popular.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fortune on 2004-11-18 at 13:24:52
Yeah I agree with Paella D2B was tight... I also liked DDR by RiShiN.rK@USEast I think it was... followed the same dancing idea and used zerglings but they both took a lot more skill to create than regular bounds made lately. D2B is becoming a little aged though if I'm correct... DDR is a little bit newer.

Hey trapp actually your red bound might be a lil different from all those other bounds
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fortune on 2004-11-18 at 21:51:35
I've spent a lot of time on it... DeST said it was newb when he decide he hated me. Soon after he told me he only played 1 obstacle and that it was newb because marines are used instead of zerglings.

first bounds were rather nice. originality n stuff. now they're unbeatable.
i like tricks maps more (not the can you do)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-20 at 07:23:15
I think the issue with bound maps is that there is only so much you can do, to keep it interesting, possible to complete, and different...and most has been done so little left, or just little edits and tricks added...

exactly. most bounds now are too hard and impossible to beat
Why Try when its impossible?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-11-21 at 05:21:45
There not all impossible, many appear to be so and all that is required is correct timing, my issue is that after a while the micro skill goes and its boring.

Void, lol
I'm glad you're with me on DeST and I'm also glad you like Red Bound! w00t.gif
In any case this topic is sure becoming an assault on DeST instead of bounds happy.gif

Bounds are a unoriginal way for unoriginal map makers to be lazy and make maps. Bound's titles have even lost their original purpose. Lets go back to the very first bound.

Snowbound by KcKKryptonite (stolen version by omg who else Raging_Raptor infamous map stealer)

In this map, snow and bound were one word because Snowbound is a word.

Snowbound - adj. - to be shut in or blocaded by snow.

The idea of the map was that you are escaping the snowbound area. Same except new map and title but same idealistc title in Ice Bound. Nowadays, Bound is just a tag which means "hey this map blows" I mean really, if you make an obstacle map you could give it some sort of plot or reasoning
I'll give out some ideas I have had before
"Look Im in the insane asylum and Iv'e broken out of my cell! censored.gif they activated the electric floor traps"

"Lets go Indiana Jones style and get some treasures from the ancient temple! Oh censored.gif , arrows and traps good god!"

"Hey I am Mario, give me princess peach back bowser"
"Muwhahaha, get through my traps and then defeat me and you may have her"

"W00t Im a bear, oh censored.gif its hunting season and these technological hunters have lots of new traps, crap!"

" censored.gif , I gotta get out of hell, but these flames are dangerous! Oh no the devil wants to fight me!"

"Crap, Im a firefighter and I have to fight my way into this burning building and out to save these people!"

"I'm a soldier and I have to infiltrate this base and avoid the traps, set the bomb, then escape before it blows up!"

These are pretty corny as I have given them but these stories could give bounds a new flush of gameplay. and DROP THE BOUND TAG, same with RPGS, what real game rpgs have rpg at the end. Is it Chrono Trigger RPG? or Final Fantasy RPG? or
RPG ANYTHING? NO, ok my rant is done, just listen to D-Von.

Hey, you are absolutely right. Mostly.... If people don't put bound on a bound name, people won't know its a bound. AN RPG is usually based on something so you can guess if its an RPG or not without needing the tag, but Bounds need it so people know to play those, or avoid those, depending nn the person.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Red2Blue on 2004-11-24 at 00:13:40
Well.... don't diss bounds.... it takes more skill then you'd think...

and

Rpgs are all the same...
they are only variations in what happens within the beginning and end...

Melee can always be predicatable...
Terran: Marine->Firebat->[Vulture->Goliath->Tank] or ->[Wraith->Bc]
Zerg: [Zergling->Hydralisk] or [Mutalisk->Guardian/Devourer]
Protoss: Cannons->[Zealots->Dragoons] or [Scout/Dt] or [Carrier/Arbiter]

(im just naming the more common and popular strategies that have the highest win ratios)

Defense is the same thing... theres no unit control at all... its just about how much you kill...

Bounds are just as hard to make as any other map. There are concepts that must be applied inorder for it to work properly... and you can't just randomly throw explosions all over the map... you must make sure and test each ob to make sure that they can be completed in less then 100% accuracy... make a bound before you call em the easiest maps to make...

(as a side note... I don't believe that the maps that I have noted, to being easy types of maps to make. Each map has just the same amount of difficulty to create and function... so don't send the hate mail... im not dissin you.. im just trying to show that, they aren't as advanced as you'd think compared to bounds.)

Late reply: Bounds are to easy, takes me a minute to study the level, and I got it down and I complete it with ease... I'd say Bounds are beginner maps..
