That wouldn't help if you keep him out of your games... He could jsut join another players map for the DL and then he has the map...

I know its been said before but telling everyone here is the best thing you can do... Persoanly Public Beta Tests are stupid... For My Maps ( If i finish one ) i would only test with some respected people here at SEN.

What beta tests?? Aren't we talking about Alpha tests? (before game is even partly finished) Star's map was stolen in really early stages... no one would ever waste time protecting a map thats only 0.005% done. But anyways..

Hmmm a deathlist for those evil map stealers.. where would we post it up? Hmm call it the "wall of shame!" Nah... too cliche... you guys make up something cool!

My friend had to do alpha tests on public because his friends were always too busy to be able to help him.. (he only needed 3 people.. -.-) How are we gonna fix something like that? It's sorta sad if the only way to test a very early map IS to do it publicly.. can't we do something to prevent that? confused.gif

I don't know if this is old news or not but tonight on Starcraft I joined the S.W.A.T. map that Mathrix(U) made and it said it was made by some raptor guy...anyone else seen that?

No, I havn't
I really hate map stealers. By the way I'm a map editor not stealer I only improve them not take credit, but to try to give the creator some more credit and fame for the map.
I remember a helms deep map, it was so bad that I gave the map a pretty big edit.
Also SOG Advance, did some changes with stats and triggers. Also my first rpg map gave that a huge re-edit, it was very fast pasted, so much large scaled battles, lost it now, great map though.

And I'm also on vaction from the Starcraft World, I'm soooo addicted to cs:s, Counter Strike: Source, that is so fun!

Well firstly, we cannot be sure of the "legitness", truth, of the whole ordeal... how do we know that this is infact true? Such as in this case, how do we truely know that the creator has lost a map to a stealer? What if its the other way around? Or just creating hate... I know my questioning is pointless but... its truely unjust.

If you would like to hear unjust... take l)ark(v)arine- into account. l)ark(v)arine- was one of the best map makers out there... but a few people got jealous of his work and decided to put his name all over other peoples maps (this was when protection was easily broken), and after doing so, they released the maps, framed him, and forever creating a bad name for l)ark(v)arine-...

We have to get facts straight before we can make decisions...

And make sure what we do is correct... this whole post may be incorrect...

Yea, I've been wondering whether shakespeare101 'really' did steal my map. Considering I wasn't there to experience what happened. I just remembering going onto B.net one day when Ice-Inferno-X3 told me my War ][-][ero map got stolen. It's probably true since he said he saw the map being hosted by shakespeare101, the guy who stole the map to begin with.

Even so, what's stopping the person from creating a different account name?

I censored.gif in hate map stealers. Someone stole one of my best maps and spread it all over battle.net. It was called The Bait which was popular for a month or 2. Then some Idiot called LoserNewbie took my name off it, put his on, and renamed the map Protect BOB. Now that game is spread everywhere and no one knows who the REAL maker of that game is (which is me!)

But it was sort of my fault cuz i didn't protect my maps back then. Now all of my good maps out there on battle.net are locked except for drawing contest

I also favor the blacklisting of all mapmakers. The reason why they steal maps is to become popular, so if we force them to change names we defeat that purpose. If they choose to remain on the same name there are ways to make gaming hell for them. wink.gif

Yes, the theft by RagingRaptor was a huge topic here at SEN a while back. It was indeed created by MaThRiX(U).

Some of the best ways that I know of to prove map creation are interesting. For one, in a random trigger somewhere simply insert the action to "Set Mission Objectives to:" whatever you had used the objectives for, and which most likely contained your name. The newbs that steal maps are usually oblivious to the complex triggering involved in them, so simply insert it a few times into triggers that they would not look at (such as a long series of similar triggers with subtle differences). Also, as stated earlier you can put in the fog of war layer or in the terrain your name. Along with these methods, you can hide proof in other places if a serious dispute in the mapmaking community does erupt, though few arguments of true ownership do happen. Simply go to the named switches list, and rename one way near the bottom "Created by FaZ-" with of course your name. Also include it in forces, properties, settings, and randomly scattered used locations- best put after a few spaces so it is undetectable unless the location is opened, as follows:

Team 2 Respawn B________________Created by FaZ-

(The underscores are spaces, but multiple spaces aren't recognized on SEN so...) In the editor unless the location is very large the thief would only see the beginning section, not the latter part. These are just a few of the ways in which I assure that anything I create will never be thought of as being created by anyone else.

EDIT: Made underscores.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-01-12 at 22:26:08
That's absolutely true FaZ- but the thing is most newbs on battle.net dont look at mission objectives when trying to find out whose the maker of the game.

Most of the time, people know who the maker of a game is by the force slot names and terrain text.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-01-13 at 00:17:27
Bottom line is, we can't do anything about it when its on battle.net. If that map is submitted here, and you can prove that you're the orginal maker then we will replace it. If the map stealer him/herself submitted it, we can ban them on top of that.

It's the most we can do.

Unfortanately, I don't know if other sites take such precautions against map stealers.

They could easily create another account and steal maps while on that one then credit there primary account. A blacklist would solve nothing and that isn't even questioning the legitimacy of it.

Wow... this is just funny. Moogle let me know about this thread, wonder why you didn't post it in my original post. Anyways, that is all false, I made this map from scratch. I'd really like to see this person reply to my main post because he was most likely one of my testers which somehow got an unprotected copy of my map (as i so often do protect it because of the incident in question) I'd also like to see advancements in the map by the supposed "creator" as I am sure it is too advanced for him, as he takes credit for other people's work.

For those still in doubt. Don't you think it's gonna be funny that i'll actually be releasing updates on the map?

Another, the second post in my original release, the guy actually remembers testing it with me one time. http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=9301

P.S Starman.Jr, I took a look at your reply in this thread, and suffice to say, you resemble to me an unscupoulous greedy little kid who is either too bored, or enjoys instigating conflicts. I just joined this site and i'm already bombarded with this, now I wonder if it was worth it to take the time to sign up for three seconds... hmm... no there are still good people, moogle being one of them (informed me of this thread without judging), he is a good example of someone who is mature enough to look at both sides of an arguement.

ALSO, i doubt he will be able to finish it, mine is all done on paper already, I have laid out all the schematics, and know exactly what i'm gonna do for all the puzzles, I just need to actually make the different rooms.

This guy 'starman.jr' is unabashedly yelling out blatant remarks that I am a 'map stealer' when he taking credit for my map. It was annoying at first, now it is a little sad and funny.

We can not go around accusing people of map stealing.

Although I would like screens from the map, screens of "Starman.Jr" talking about this, and other items that will help proove that shakesphere is innocent or guilty.

First of all shakespeare101 ( probably a backup name) This empyrean or Golden Land rpgs are not what we speak of.These maps are yours and to be nice and honest, theyre quite fun. But we're talkiing of a 256x256 map, the fact that this map is extremely cool or that it's starmans map is not the poiint, the point is you stole a map and renamed it after yourself. Don't try and confuse people by saying this map is being updated blah blah blah, this is completely different. As Far as i see it since i saw the goddamn censored.gif ing map myself, unless you proved you were framed you're guilty and i think you should be at the least removed from sen.
By the way, im the one who told you about SEN and suggested you submit golden land. Maybe you should tell everyone why you dont get along with me anymore? I'm sure peopkle would love to hear the stupidity of it all.

I wont do any HATEMAIL or anything like that, but dont try and flip the truth. You're in possession of a few maps that're beta's and quite frankly i dont trust you with them. If you can prove you're not a map stealer then prove it.

P.S. Hey all, I'm Back cool1.gif

Flame war? What flame war? We're all on the same side (unless there's a map stealer here that's willing to defend his actions)
