It looks like it's the same crystal because the sprite covers up the unit underneath.
That doesn't work with buildings though.
The building sprite disappear when fog goes over them.
A bit ago Tuxedo asked for a stained glass window, but didn't get a great result. Well I have an idea. Using wall traps to make a wall, then removing some into a window shape. After this, a bunch of cloaked units that are mainly player color, (zergling), then simply use different players for different colors.
Can someone supply me with a good hit-by-lightning effect for my map? Right now I'm using a corsair death, a hallu scourge death, and a thunder wav. Needless to say, it looks terrible.
Lol... You could do what Bolt Head did in HotH by centering view on the unit, then drawing a text lightning bolt (of course coloring yellow) to make it appear to hit the player, and play the wav and kill him or whatever.
No offense to parties involved, but that sounds incredibly stupid to me. Won't the little gap between the lines be noticeable? Besides, it would draw other player's attention away from other things they're doing.
If you could engineer unseen corsairs to attack a cluster of observers where you want the lightning to strike, that might be a good way to provide the lightning flare effect. Then make a halluc death afterward as the scorch effect.
You could also use an Archon's attack, which looks like lightning almost exactly. If you could engineer that, as well.
(and with that said, I'm back to work)
This on might not be possible, because I know nothing about making maps and such, but you could potential "create" a flame unit, using a cloaked firebat, and a constant image of a DT death over it. If would eve "breath" fire
Um... I was in the middle of making a map to see what cloaked DT deaths could be used for. The most obvious is a white "flame".
I have some:
Having a cloaked SCV build a building (use an Ai Script, it'll make a Command Center in the middle of the location). Looks like an building building itself.
Having a Zerg builfing with a 1/15 build time so it remains as a Zerg building egg indefinately (with an AI script again).
I don't beleive you can cloak an scv without an arbitor.
Yeah, unless the new patch changed the values, cloaking an SCV will result in a crash. Of course, in an RPG, it is entirely possible to put an Arbiter on top of a cliff, cloaking an SCV, thus causing that effect.
The disabling, enabling thing. Once you do everything for that, give it to a Player who doesn't have their own vision, then give it back to a computer. When i etsted it, it looked really cool, but it crashed about 20-30% of the time. Arbiter would be best.
Maybe you should add screenshots of everything.
Or maybe I'm just over-shooting.
The one visual effect using the Stargate for shiny windows is very gross looking, by the way.
ok ok i dont get it...how u add those kool ass terrains to a map???i tried but had no sucess
You can't just 'add these kool terrains", since we're not giving them away. Besides, you can't just combine all the stuff here unless you want it to look ugly. Different terrains styles. Well, I suggest you take some time with Starforge just experimenting by putting tiles together, but we're not going to just give you our terrain for a little blurb of text at the beginning of the map.
Putting pictures/examples of all the effects would be awesome i think... Like in DK's terrain assistance thread that was very helpful when i was noob.
I could do that, but I'd rather wait until Rush pt.1 is done first. I wanted to go as far as make animated gifs or clips of each effect, to show how they work, but I'm gonna need to figure out how to do that (haven't done any kind of animated pics or movie capture and editing for years).
Alternatively, I could make a map of the effects, and someone else could capture them in gifs or clips themself to show here (which would save me a lot of time). Anyone up for that?
Mmh, dont get me wrong here, but maybe save a replay?
Should save alot of time, or should it be site-accesable? I mean without starting StarCraft?
If you stack pit doors, it can look like a barricaded area or some cave or wall that people aren't suppose to go in, or something boarded up. Not amazing but I thought it was a good way t represent some kind of forbidden area of doom in a map or something along those lines.
Yeah it should be site accessible, because people are lazy bastards and won't look at individual replays for each effect.
Anyway, I could just cook up the map in a few days if someone could help me capture the effects in gifs or something. A lot of the exploders need to be shown in their animations to make sense though, hence why I'm asking.
If you go into the game yourself and hit the Print Screen button a bunch of times really fast you should be able to capture all/most of the frames, and make them into an Animation with any program (I use Animation Shop 3, came with Paintshop Pro 7).
add the eldfire.grp sprite for waterfall because ppl keep asking that!
Lots of spells can have cool looking effects, like a bunch of feedback sprites look like a guy powering up and recalls... recalls are sweet plain and simple
A Mutalisks attack looks like a Boomerang.
ADDITION:
And if you look closely, Zealot attacks look like they are swinging a baseball bat.
