Oh, well I thought it would be logical to have stations inbetween the planets in order for a rest stop or something lol.

To change Mar's atmosphere into mostly Oxygen or what ever, all we have to do is send (over the course of MANY years) millions and millions of gallons of algea or how ever you spell it. This bacteria(or plant?) xcan survive in extreme conditions and will turn the mostly Carbon atmoshpere of Mars into oxygen.

Take note that this proccess will take a LONG time.

I think that mars has no oxygen atmosphere... but if it does then we can breathe in it, which I highly doubt.
The ship actually traveling in higher than lightspeed is impossible. But to bend space in some way is possible, but with our current technology, entering another dimension or quantum tunneling is currently impossible. Impossible to make big ones anyways. We currently can make wormholes about the size of 6 atoms can get through. But if we can generate enough energy, we can make a person go through it, and if we can generate more energy and higher energy, intersteller travel would be possible.

Note that all these things would be possible with united earth.

Where are you getting the information about wormholes?

anyway how the hell would algae create oxygen?! oxygen is a pure substance i would understand if mars atmosphere has co2 or something but algae cannot simply create oxygen.

yeah... well we would have to get the oxygen from some other place like an asteroid, comet or the water on mars. i also think that it would be pretty stupid to create a living atmosphere there... u know how cold it is?!

you know I think it wasn't wormhole it was something else, but whocares?
it would be cool if you really could make wormholes.... i would teleport into your house and then put tomatoe sauce everywhere!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Do-0dan on 2005-12-12 at 22:48:57
i doubt wormholes would be possible, because if they were, aliens would've showed up at our planet and enslaved us to gather more resources for their ships
would the existence of wormholes contradict the universes' laws?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2005-12-12 at 22:55:31
no a wormhole is like a rip in time and space :0 enabling us to bend the laws of physics and such to travel anywhere at anytime... or something like that

and aliens wont enslave us because we are lazy slaves yawn.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Do-0dan on 2005-12-12 at 22:56:51
so can we somehow use wormholes to go back into the past?

of course we can not yet... ever watch stargate sg-1? yeah... thats a wormhole

An wormhole is possible to be created in manyways... or so I believe. I think an exotic matter that has an negative charge of electricity can bend space around it, and like supermassive blackholes. Supermassive blackholes have gravity like no other can imagine. Scientists believe that blackholes rip space a part in the event horizon of it.

A less known name for wormhole is Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky bridge which is the scientific name for it. This is all completely theoratic.

Another theory which is far more into researched is Quantum Tunneling. I think this is mathematically proved. of course this is from Wikipedia. This is very much proved.
But I dont think we are able to make big ones.
n the early 1900's radioactive materials were known to have characteristic exponential decay rates or half lives and the radiation emissions were known to have certain characteristic energies. By 1928 George Gamow solved the theory of the alpha-decay of a nucleus via tunneling. Classically, the particle is confined to the nucleus because of a very strong potential. Classically, it takes an enormous amount of energy to pull apart the nucleus. In Quantum Mechanics, however, there is a probability the particle can tunnel through the potential and escape. Gamow solved a model potential for the nucleus and derived a relationship between the half life of the particle and the energy of the emission.

Alpha-decay via tunneling was also solved concurrently by Ronald Gurney and Edward Condon. Shortly thereafter both groups had also considered that particles could also tunnel into the nucleus.

After attending a seminar by Gamow, Max Born recognized the generality of quantum mechanical tunneling. He realised that tunneling phenomena was not restricted to nuclear physics, but was a general result of Quantum Mechanics that applies to many different systems. Today the theory of tunneling is even applied to the early cosmology of the universe.

Quantum tunneling was later applied to other situations such as the cold emission of electrons, and perhaps most importantly semiconductor and superconductor physics.

In 1970s, in the works of R.R. Dogonadze, M.V. Volkenshtein, Z.D. Urushadze and others were formulated the first Quantum-mechanical (physical) Model of Enzyme Catalysis. These works supported a theory that enzyme catalysis use quantum-mechanical effect such as tunneling.

wooo... this is as bad as school XD

ok anyway if we do infact create a base on the moon or mars what the hell are we gonna use it for? it serves almost no purpose except for scientific studies(not much there)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Shapechanger on 2005-12-13 at 08:01:14
From what I can gather from that article, tunneling is the nucleus of an atom escaping from within the electrons. How would that help us in teleportation?

the scientists would think it would be interesting to anaylise all substances in the moon, mars and possibly there might be resources there we might excavate. Moon is always on the same side. Always, so it would be interesting to research the otherside of the moon. they would even map the whole thing. They are probably gonna research how to build massive stable building so that they could have moon-city. Mars too, I think Mars has an underground frozen waterline, and a lot of CO2 which means trees and plants are definately stable there... were looking for land, resource, and material. Probably on moon they'll research how moon got on orbit. How to stabilize a large object into orbit.

I believe Mars only has water under the polar caps. True, trees and plants have plenty of CO2, but they need water, and I dont think there is enough to sastify them.

Yes, imagine if there were wormholes. Can you just imagine the effects? Possibility of being deformed, causing environmental problems, easier crime. In fact, how would you even close a wormhole? Imagine if scientists were working on it and failed to close a wormhole.

ADDITION:
I do believe we are in the beginning stages of the space age. However, due to our problems with resources and lack of funding, it's difficult to have "space age" technology reach the public. Also, I noticed somebody mentioned using magnets. It would be nice, but imagine the problems: computers dead, aircrafts falling, many storms, etc. We have the potential to create colonies, but right now, it does not seem to be within the people's goals.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2005-12-14 at 02:09:13
actually it uses the same technology as the bullet train. and as far as i know computers work fine on the train.

i think wormholes need energy to keep them open...(not sure if i have this right) so all we have to do is cut off the energy and the worm hole will go poof
