@ Centreri

Please don't call me Cow.

I just think that the tax supported schools are too regulated. I don't ever forsee myself using what I learned in gym (if I even learned anything) in real life, while I may need programming skills or something.

I totally agree with deathawk here.

I can even remotely understand why gym or "pool" (which in my school is just part of gym) are mandatory classes if they actually taught us something.

Here's what happens.

Class = 45 minutes.
Take attendance = ~10 minutes.
Then, if one teacher is absent out of the 4 teachers doing gym at the same time, we have free gym, and kids get full credit for sitting out. That happens every other day.

Sitting down on the side of the gym doesn't fix obesity...

Spanish, I think should be optional.

@CKow: Sorry tongue.gif.

@Dark 13: It's a discussion about how the american school system sucks. Or something like that. It makes us feel better.

Heres the classes I don't think make sense

phys ed - they want me to take this class when I'm already in good shape...yet it requires 2 more years
language - I've already taken this for 4 years, and they want me to continue taking it...
Health - I've already learned pretty much everything I will learn, now their just repeating themselves...
History - I know the history, now their trying to make me learn every last detail crazy.gif (who all their relatives are and such)

and they say that if I don't continue taking all that junk that they will refuse to let me pass no matter how well I do in everything else... blink.gif

I think history is worthless in general happy.gif. What do they teach you in health anyway?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-05-06 at 10:04:15
little things like where veins are, where your heart is, where your brain is, where all the bones are, etc

it also teaches how things work, and gives you a ton of labels for you to remember

it's annoying how you gotta remember all the labels...theres over 500 of em crazy.gif

Lol be happy you dont live in Japan or China, and be very happy you get to go to school. Japanese and Chinese school day is like 8 hours with 2 hours of homework every night.

Gym is an idiotic requirement. Kids in my class are graded on their efficiency at golf. How in the world is that a life skill? And Spanish could be useful, but some kids just don't have the knack. Math could be used to influence almost every job in the history of everything, but, if the morons don't wanna take it, then let them not! It'll get the idiots out of school faster, and leave the competent, abidable people in school to do the important things.

Just like the theory:

Take safety labels off everything and let the problem take care of itself.

In school, You should only have to take classes that you want!

1. Math you ned it
2. English you need it
3. History or Health
4. Gym because it is awesome
5. A shiz load of computer classes
- Computer Programming
- Web Design
- Desktop Publishing
- Powerpoint
- Business Manegement
- Accounting
- html and other website coarses

-the cool thing is just about all those classes I have a chice to take in my highschool, as of ight now being a sophomore I have taken only about 2/3 of them but I wil get all of them in, because as a freshman you cant choose

Gym sucks. There are after school sports for a reason. For people who WANT to play them.

There's a very big problem with that and it is the fact that your future employee population will go down greatly.

Gym is one of the most important classes, wether you believe it or not. First, you'll get your lazy behind up of that chair and do something. You learn to play sports and learn healthy habits.

Imagine 15 years from now, you have a 7 year old kid. He wants to go play some sports with you, but there's a huge problem, you don't know how to play. This means that your kid will no longer look up to you and think crap about you for the rest of your life.

Just 3 hours of exercising a week will get you in good shape and in a much healthier state. You can't expect to have an athletic body. It's taken me 8 years of Track to achieve a full track build, my body has molded to my sport's requirements and it's almost perfectly balanced. I can alter my breathing and heartbeat rate almost instantly, even while in the middle of a race. I can cut of my mind from experiencing certain nerve impulses and I can achieve a very high level of concentration. You can't ever expect to achieve this with just a few hours a week, It's taken me 3~4 hours every day for 8 years to do this.
But look on the other side, what's better? To be healthy and have a normal body build than having problem doing physical activities and being fat?

Many of you will be thinking that I'm talking crap. Well, take a read at this drastic but real life example. Imagine if your having sex with a girl and you get tired, you're unable to satisfy her and she'll eventually dump you. Because you were in such bad physical shape, you lost your girl and most of all, a lot of self esteem.

3 hours a week, playing whatever sport you like. It's healthy for you, gets you a better body and self esteem.

Well said Beer, some people don't realize how important Gym really is, especially for their adult lives. I do about 4 hours of basketball per day in addition to an hour of Gym every day and school teams. That's probobly why I don't have a weight problem, I'm actually pretty underweight.

But you don't need gym in order to play a sport, or to be in shape.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2006-05-11 at 15:11:55
Yea, Deathawk, that was my point. It shouldn't take up our limited slots just because people would sue the school (another problem with today's america) for their kids being fat. Luckily, I only have to take one (combined) year of gym/health, so it's only one loss of a class, but if I had that extra class, I'd be able to complete Advanced Culinary Arts by the end of my senior year, but now I can't due to lack of space.

Maybe I went a little to far on the sports issue. At my school, Gym is called Physical Education and what we do is learn and play a specific sport of our choosing.

Playing physical games, such a hide and go seek, as a crude and easy example, are almost just as good as playing any regular sport.

Once you're out of hs, you're gonna have to deal w/ even more bs classes in college. God damn 1st 2 years. Money hungry cock suckers.

Yea, but shouldn't college life also be better in general? You're free from your parents and stuff and you can party all the time.
