Staredit Network -> Games -> How Many Years Does Starcraft Have Left?

real sc players will be there forever

SC is quite lucky to have made it this far, most RTS games this old would be dead by now. I think the only reason it has made it this far is because of the UMS setting and the complexity of map making, and a die-hard fan base, like the one we have here. cool1.gif

I would give SC another 3 years, but when SC2 comes out (whenever that is tongue.gif ) I think it will be the end.

see 100k.
Is Starcraft starting to die out.
Diablo II didn't steal much SC players.
Warcraft II stole a little more than DiabloII

StarCraft is the biggest game Blizzard ever made. Maybe in 20 years it will be dead. But hey, in that time, you could probably expect Blizzard to die out before StarCraft itself wink.gif

I think that the Starcraft name wont die like with sequels and stuff but I'm pretty sure SC/broodwar will die out with SC2. and Imo sc2 is a gurantee, like Felagund said Starcraft is the best selling game Blizzard has ever made so why would they not make a sequel to that greatness.

not really, just look at sonic and mario they came out more than a decade ago and there are still games being made for them.

Because Blizzard doesn't care about StarCraft anymore. They last thing they did for StarCraft was 1.11b.

CODE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- patch 1.11b
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Fixed a bug that allowed SCV's to heal Marines.
- Fixed a bug that allowed Zerg to build without the need for creep.
- Fixed a bug that allowed buildings to be stacked on top of each other.
- Fixed a Mac bug that prevented StarEdit from running.
- Fixed a Mac bug where background music stopped after the first piece.

Fixed bugs. They should be fixing more than five bugs at once. I'm sure they know of more. But whatever. Their games they like are WarCraft III, World of WarCraft, and maybe StarCraft: Ghost which should be released at the end of this year... Maybe they have plans for a StarCraft sequel after those games are out of the way though.

There will also be a time where there will be a big upgrade to the OPS or a new OPS and it will not be able to run it.

ThinkStandar you replied to almost every topic in here WOW

ON topic: Mabye 3-5 more years left for meleeing cause sometimes it's boring all you do is get a really large army attack the enemy and win unless they ahve another really bug army. UMS ppl will probably play for longer

Thats because you play money maps.
Melee maps are way much better.

I don't know but, if the new OS Microsoft will release in 2006(For more info see my post in Serious Discusion) won't be able to handle Starcraft, Stacraft will only have about 4-5 years left.

Anyways if it does handle it then i say about 7-8 years. Because the gaming industry is releasing more games every years and players tend to buy new games.

Does this mean SEN will also die out as well...?
or will SEN in then future change games, maybe to SC2 but what if SC2 isn't released? What will SEN do?
Die out or continue to a new game?

[SIZE=14] w00t.gif Starcraft Will Never Die!!! biggrin.gif [SIZE=14][SIZE=7]Starcraft is a classic. It will be like Pokemon. By that I mean that no matter how unpopular it will become, it will always have fans. The true fans will always stand by Starcraft. As long as there are fans Starcraft will continue to live on. Even if Blizz takes Starcraft off of battle.net, there will be othere servers that will host it. As long as there is at least one fan, Starcraft lives. Starcraft is a classic, and will not die any time soon. Hell, Starcraft will always be alive in out hearts, just like the alien Xenomorph inside my chest. And furthermore ugghhh, aahhhhhh, OH MY GOD!!! (dies) Alien crawls out and feasts on flesh.
