the screen can lag behind the mouse for example wink.gif

I wouldn't worry about it. People can just use a faster computer if they don't want programs to respond slowly... Nothing you can do about it if they insist on making maps on their ol' Pentium IIs wink.gif

If you really really want to test it, I have an AMD K6-2, 333MHz, 3D Now!, with onboard ATI Rage IIc graphics (in other words, very, very old). The computer has absolutely no trouble playing Starcraft, however, so maybe it's not the ideal test environment... Remember, an AMD CPU at 333MHz is not the same as an Intel at the same clock speed. And onboard AGP graphics are not too shabby either.

If you want me to test it, just link me to what to install and I can figure out the rest biggrin.gif

(I presume you are one of the developers working on SCMDraft? Sorry if I sound ignorant by asking that, I am more familiar with StarForge and have never really used SCMDraft)

Edit: Duh, right under your name... "Stormcoast Fortress webmaster, Scmdraft 2 Devolpment"

"Development", Btw wink.gif

Total Cost: Only about $2750 SUCKERS!

Lol, that price is rediculous. for $3000 you could get a dell XPS laptop with 4 GHz processors and a load of other crud...

We've been building it since January, as we got the parts. And holy censored.gif , they already have 4GHz processors? And by the freaking way, you have to seriously be smoking pot to go with a brand-name *snickers* computer. WTF were you smoking? If I had a spare $6k I would get Voodoo too. Or Falcon Northwest. But I don't. SO : P And did I mention Dell's freaking suck? They are the pits of computers! Oh yeah, the notebooks are mighty fine or so I hear. But I hate notebooks!

First off I doubt Dells even carry GeForce-6800's in their stock. Wait a sec...

OMG... OMG... ROFL ROFL! Dell had a max of like 4 cpu options... You can choose this piece of crap... or you can whip out another $1000 and buy a decent one (fastest was P4 3.4GHz Extreme I believe), and wtfage? They STILL don't carry nVidia cards? I had a nice choice of Dell monitors, Dell speakers, and let's not forget, tons upon tons of useless Dell software! Hell, they didn't even offer my favorite mouse: MS Internet Explorer 3 (or w/e version it is now). No! Like nothing had more than three or four options. There were no: case options, nVidia cards (which now pwn ATI all 'ze way!), MOTHERBOARD options... ok, that's just too freaking far.

Dell's Craptastic Website

Dell is the incarnation of all of America's stupidity! I want to move to Canada, where Bush's iron grip of idiocy falls short! Gahahah, rock on Canada!

Oh yeah, for GOOD PCs:
iBuyPower.com, a nicely priced company with decent options
VooDooPC, the Best there is, though you can expect to pay a pretty penny!
Falcon Northwest, a close Runner-Up to VooDoo. They have sexy case options! w00tage
ABS Computers, a nice "middle-ground" from good to great. Decent pricing, great computers. This is probably the definitive company for most of you out there, as long as you can save up $1500 or more. But, you'll get an awesome gaming rig : )

Now for computer parts:
Pricewatch.com Nice selection of computer parts, all for the latest prices
NewEgg.com, much like Priceline but a little user-friendlier!

These are just the sites that came to mind first. As always, feel free to add more!
*Note* any of these sites are better than Dell!

Actually that really is the specs of my computer, i really wasn't joking, you don't need much to use programs these days. StarForge can't run on this computer if it has any units on the screen, SCMDraft II, when i had it on, worked to a good degree, though it sometimes blanked for a moment.

Sadly cannot hold it or test it for you at the moment, since this computer is actually full, and is about to die, since my sister hovered inside it and started hovering up the wires, glad i am getting out of the house soon! But, just take my word, it can work fine enough on this computer, though i didn't have the trigger system to use...so...

It shouldn't... Celeron's are basically a ruined P3 (I'm talking about the Coppermines here). A 400MHz Celeron is more than enough to play Starcraft. In fact, I used to play it on a 600MHz Celeron... Well anyway, you might wanna check that out, cause it should be able to play the game fine wink.gif

I am so glad that finally someone agrees with me. "A proprietery nightmare", as someone else once described Dell. I could go on for pages and pages.... grrr mad.gif

Yeah, Intel just keeps making their processors run at a higher clock speed to make up for their stupidity elsewhere. The original P4s essentially bombed, so they had to clock them higher to make up for the "improvements". In my opinion, its a really bad idea, and partially why I will only buy AMD processors. They are far more stable anyway.

Edit: Sorry, I just screwed up the QUOTE tags wink.gif

well, staredit manages to work fine on those computers, there is no reason why a well coded scmdraft shouldn't, its a matter of pride. Stereo has the first beta of the new engine and says it runs better, since then I hae hopefully improved it even more, perhaps by tonight the core display will be working again and I can readd the brush graphics.
I first played SC on a 686 90mhz, but currently my slowest comp is PII 350 which is running linux as a router, my Pentium 166 isn't setup right now.

for 3K$ I would get dual xeon with 4 gb ram and scsi raid 5 ...

Uh... just to tell you, the max unit limit is 1700 not 1650.

Also, to get over the 200 supply limit go here.

The 1650 unit limit imposed by StarEdit is just a made up number to keep the amount of units low enough to allow more to be created in game (and to prevent that annoying "unable to shoot at anything" phenomena).

If you make a trigger to just constantly create units, it will go over 1650, and at a certain point the message "Cannot create more units" will appear on the screen, signalling that Starcraft has reached the limits of its abilities to create units (memory-wise).

My Comp Specs:

Intel Celeron
667mhz
128 SDRAM
40 GB HDD
Integrated Graphix (8 mb?)
Integrated Sound

SCMDraft 0.4.5 ran pretty smooth for me. StarForge seems to take a bit longer.
