@BroodKiller: Thanks for the 1.1 release! biggrin.gif

By the way Mealstorm Hit (ID 364) is actually the Stasis Hit. (They use the same iscript, just different palettes.)

when i saw Slash image in DatEdit that was preety good for simbol of DatEdit
that image which pictures makes understand what is possible for modding
when if use Datedit and other moddingtools

if someone who has starter in SC Modding if he see that Splash when first use
Datedit, he'd get desire to make as like emac's mod screen

in my oppinon, mod pictures which used mod screenshots, that would be better
than orginal unit pictures

One thing that could make the splash screen even better, is if a good screenshot from nirvana's mod was mixed into it smile.gif

very good job on the new version, here's how I'd rate the program now

QUOTE(ratings)
running/loading speed - 10/10
usefullness value - 10/10
DAT editing bug-free - 10/10
Small editor bugs-free - 9/10 (needs those small lines removed tongue.gif )
basic program user friendliness - 10/10
program tool's user friendliness - 7/10
unknowns solved in DAT files - 9/10 (we still havn't solved enough for full-modding)
starting splash screen - 8/10 (needs more mod pictures mixed in, otherwise is perfect)
ability to crash the program without Alt+F4 - 0/10 (I couldn't do it! ohmy.gif )

there's no re-open DAT directory function

What do you mean? Like a history list for the "Load Directory" function?

also, I think I might have figured out what some unknowns in sounds.dat are for,
I think unknown 1 is sound level, and unknown 2 is sound priority, but I can't test either of these so can someone else do it?

What do you mean by "level" and "priority"? Explain please...

Can we get that Sub. Spines label update in the next release?

Sure thing smile.gif It would make it to the current one but I read your post AFTER uploading the new version and I was to lazy to re-upload it. But I'll certainly put it into v1.2, no doubt about that.

1. yes, I mean the load directory

2. level is how loud to make the noise, and priority is how importaint starcraft thinks the file is,
the higher the priority the more likely it is to play that sound when it has to stop some sounds due to a memory overload

Nice to see an update on this, but I think researching into the leftover unknowns is alot more important than extra features...

I might have found some out but I didn't test them. Would you be willing to do some homework for me ? (BK said he'll include them only after I get confirmation I'm right, which I might not be, but you never know biggrin.gif).

I'd be happy to test them when I can, but I only have access to starcraft about once every week or two

untill then, I can test the information by looking into the .dat files for any sorts of problems.

don't worry about not being right, I've posted plenty of unknowns I've 'thought' I solved, only to find a flaw in them tongue.gif

I dont suppose you could make the MPQ load and export map friendly, IE SCMLoader can play maps with dats save in them.

So if the dats are in the map it would be a whole lot easier to load and save directly to the map.

I dont work much with MPQ's i do direct map altering since SCMLoader ever came out

(Addition)
Im willing to do research just name the ones your looking at

Ive been researching AI Internal in the TAB AI Actions
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-07-19 at 17:49:30
I gave BK exe confirmation on the two flags in the StarEdit subgroup of Units.dat... however, the one labeled 'floats?' is too unpredictable.

AI Internal isn't going to be explained easily, man, but have a go at it... It's a pair of flags(0x01, 0x02) that are always together when selected. I might need to re-look in the exe at what they do though....

Oh, BK, I found 2 things wrong.

1. After loading an MPQ, it gives a Access Violation. I believe I had on one of the advanced views.
2. the back reports still is enabled even if the tab isn't supposed to be there. example, load an mpq with images, then backtrack to sprites. or from weapons to orders.

Why is that checkbox there as it doesn't seem used by anything. Unless there is an exe reference to it, that is smile.gif

Well I talked with DoA about using such flags for "individualization" and he said that the EXE wouldn't recognize it anyway (confirmed by U-238). Unless you hardcode the EXE and use this flag for ... something I guess biggrin.gif

Azg3r is correct. DatEdit is supposed to give you a full format editing capability, regardless of what does this particular format actually mean. If DatEd would be to turn into an all-in-one-SC-modding-studio, then it may be right to "customize" the available properties, but so far DatEd's purpose is different than this. DatEd gives you editing capabilities - the rest is yours to decide.

Hmm...but again, such a custom folder would be preserved over sessions so you'd have to clean it each time you start a new mod, or maybe create a new one...? Hmm...gotta think of it...

Ah so if I got it right, for short, you're saying even IF a byte isn't really referenced, but it is there, you still give me the option to tinker with it, just for fun, right ? Well if I got it right, then the better. I am not against offering FULL SUPPORT to manipualting it. It's just that the Unused checkboxes make me think of Unknowns tongue.gif (damn psychological impact).

@ BK again: Why do movement flags have the codes instead of their names like they did in 1.0 ?

Semi-On-Topic:
I might have found out some Unknowns, and because I am getting busy again sorting some personal stuff (bleh, always when I don't need it) and because I am partly lazy to squeeze DatEd in my schedule, is anyone interested in testing some of my possibly crazy theories ? I might have found around ... 10 or so Unknowns. If anyone is interested in wasting time, PM me.
The more certain stuff we have in DatEd, the more fun it will be to use it (plus that way I can harass BK and he can't say NO tongue.gif)

#####DATEDIT V1.1b UPDATE#####

Yeah, well, I just made it. Have fun smile.gif

Fixes/changes:
-the "Sub.Spines (Burst)" behaviour is now called "Go to Max. Range"
-the wrongly labeled Stasis Field entries are now labeled properly
-restricted the jumping ability if an editor is now available (in the "Protected" mode).
(Hokay, this is just a quick fix, just to remedy the problem without really fixing it. DatEd will still check the backward-reference, but it will not let you jump to a disabled/hidden editor. I'll come up with something better for the next release probably)
-added History-list support for "Load Directory" (TF, we happy? smile.gif)

Because I found out that the movement flags mean sqaut almost. Only two of them are worth anything, 0x1(ground) is used by staredit to allow non-flyers to be placed. And mine-safe you know.

Strange...works fine for me. Anyone has also encountered this error?
This probably means that the file is being accessed by some other application, but it may also mean that DatEd has problems with allocating a file buffer...tested on other MPQs as well?
