As for some more general news - I've been messing with SFMPQLib yesterday evening and todays morning (it's an MPQ-related library developped by ShadowFlare). Surprisingly enough (because of my almost complete ignorance about the use DLLs), I managed to get it to work to a certain degree. Yay for meh!!!

What this means (in case you didn't realise it tongue.gif) is that MPQ Import/Export capability is very likely to be achieved rather sooner than later. Can't promise anything at this point, but things look good smile.gif

Well, in the general sense you're right, but direct implementing of the appropriate MPQ fonctionality is a bit of tedious, if you ask me. Also, let me remind you that it's my first adventure with DLLs, so it will take some time until I get familiarized with them to a decent degree smile.gif
But, speaking of it, I already achieved the desired functionality smile.gif

###DatEdit is RC 2.1. It seems that all the bugs has been fixed so be ready for the takeoff soon smile.gif###

Ok, boys'n'girls - listen up!

I decided to release an Open Beta for all of you to try and enjoy. Please, mind you however that this release is not an official one, which will come later in time. But worry not - DatEd 0.9b is fully functional (as a DAT editor) and should be safe from bugs. If you find any - contact me as soon as you can, so I can fix the problem =)

As for what's new with this release: I finally got the default DATs to work the way I wanted them to work (what happened this very day =), so no need to load an external file first smile.gif

This is because I think that the targetting control does NOT go this way all the time. There are combinations that produces results different than should appear just because of the flags used to create a said combo. It is better to leave it be until I am certain of how this work. =)

Moddings the best and its fun this just made it even better (i still dont c why there isnt too many ppl making mods anymore, wish they still were, more mods the better i say)

In Arsenal 3, there are 4 unknowns under the Miscellaneous tab in the Units Editor. Are these values editable in DatEd somewhere? (They're useful for things like making flying buildings move and such)

Other than that, it look and displays great! Much cleaner than Arsenal 3. I've yet to use it extensively, but so far, so good! thumbup.gif

They are identified and placed where they belong. If you know what they edited, you can find them. One should be under movement, one under orders, one under staredit, and I don't know where the last is.

The unknowns exist in the .dat file, that's why they are there.

I've only used it for a little bit, but I find it a big improvement. It's got everything so clearly labeled, and the jump features... Omg, I love the jump features so much! wub.gif

i got a problem i used DatEdit to edit my units.dat file now when i load it all my units can walk through eachother and buildings... well thats not so bad... but heres the bad part--> they get stuck, so i cant create units cause they get stuck in the building...

anyone know whats up?

That only hapenned to me once in the beta testing, I thought it was something else that caused it (i was messing with some unknown ai scripts) so I reported it but it seems I reported it as the wrong thing cause its the unit size causing it crazy.gif

I get that problem too. All I edited was the Guardian's air weapon and Unused Gauss Rifle 13--I'm trying to give the thing an air attack. Great fun. Additionally, when I MPQ'd the "default" folder and ran it, the problem didn't occur. It must relate to actually editing the files with DatEdit. Regardless, please fix it, since I don't want to be forced to continually reinstall Arsenal III again...

P.S. I love DatEdit--except for that one error.

I just tested it and found what part of DatEdit corrupts the size

In the Units.dat editor DatEdit only edits the width but it doesnt edit the height and therefore assigns the value 0 to the height on every unit disgust.gif
