Not always. For instance, projectiles. I have zip experience with 3D, so I'd rather handle the projectiles than anything else.
But for units? You have to have 3D models. It's impossible to do the shadings, the shape changes, etc.
I thought Kenoli was on the team, doesn't he have 3D experience?

I mean I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9. It can open and save about 30 different file picture files types, and the animation shops can open and save 7 animation types

Umm... we'll just pull frames of it and export them as sprites, just the same as Blizzard did when it was developing SC.

Ive decided to finally make a realistic Ion cannon attack to be better then cln fatso's, and i did this.

i think it was my beam you saw..dunno havent seen the other replies so there might be one of cnl fatso well my beam got owned by yours definitly btw the electricity doesnt match with it

Since nobobdy loved my pseudo-manual, I'm putting my bests idea down- another capital ship, a floating building, and an interceptor-esque skirmisher. We could replace the Civilian or heros or some unit like that with these.

Make sure it moves like a walrus. If you graphics designers can't do 3D, meld a battlecruiser's engines onto the back of a Science vessel and the battlecruiser's "head" up front, and you'll get the idea. If you can do 3d, make a ship with engines and a spherical "head" with tubes sticking out of it.
Terran Viper

Armor: Low
Cost Med.
Speed: Ungodly fast
Energy: Low
Damage: Med-Low
Cooldown:Fast
Builds at: Fleet Command
Special Abilities: Kamikaze: Quite obvious.
A one-planar design, with a bulge in the middle. Think of a wraith with the bottom wing cut off.

A slow, flying building, the Fleet command builds the Viper and Helios and researches the Helion Flare ability (and perhaps more, if DoA can hurry up with his mempatcher)

I think we need something a bit more interesting.

The Archon-Dark Archon Warp-Mind control idea was very good, Ion cannon was good, arch queen needs a new name.

Description: A powerful protoss interplanetary battleship, used in large groups as support. Can Sacrifice its energy (and when that runs out, its own shields) to restore the shields of allied units. Uses latest technology to shape its shield.
Ability:
1) Boost Shield: Sacrifices its energy/shields to restore shields to another allied unit with shields.
2) Warp Shield: Change the shape of shields (if any exist) to reduce damage taken by outside attacks. (It's like an ability to increase defense) Temporary, drains energy.

Forgot to mention, the Viper uses rockets and lasers while the helios uses oversized plasma-flame flarethrowers.
