I'm sure if they knew about it in the 17th or 18th centurys they would have threated about the concept of the end of the world from the thriving new industrial complexes, or rail road smoke, or some shizzle like that. I suppose, if society continues like how it is today, things could probably get that crazy.
Although, I don't believe it will happen exaclty like that and it probably won't happen in my life time so it's not a real big deal to me that I live in a place that may be destroyed in the future. As all things, it has to come to an end one way or another.
