So I haven't had time to read the whole thread...

Exactly how much are we getting from this ad?

What if I delete the  "Track this topic  Email this topic"  Print this topic  buttons and put it under the topic title?

What's wrong with my placement idea?

The thing Legacy posted is sort of odd, but not as out of place as Ads under the first post.

I really like the idea of putting the ads where those "___ this topic buttons are, nobody ever uses them. If you could keep the ads the same approximate size of the print etc buttons, then it would be downright sexy. Even if they were bigger, it would still look worlds better than after the first post.

Added more now.
The track this topic is a good place for it in my opinion. You can always track the topic using the option botton on the bottom.

Figured I would post a link to the news post about the first time Ads were found on SEN http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=3988

Notice the HUGH differance in the way people respond.

PS. It looks like we can lookforward to a $40 at least donation from BeerKeg this August.

Hmmm... are these ads based off of unique clicks or number of clicks... *thinks about writing a script constantly changing his IP and clicking an ad...*

Most likely Unique clicks

Bolt you missed a key point:

In Staredit Network v4

When he made that post V4 wasn't out yet. So it seemed obvious to everyone that the site would need money. Also take into consideration that half the people that go on SEN today don't like what some of the Mod Team does so refuse to help them. And it looks very professional now and seems like it can handle on it's own.
Back then it was our secret little site where we can make lots of inside jokes, so everyone wanted to help.
And the two links you posted of people saying they'll donate are (surprise) both mods. Also anyone who posted in that thread, was basically the active people on SEN 2004, now we have a lot more members, meaning more chances of complaining.

That’s true I agree with most everything you said. I don't think V4 makes much of a difference. Maybe IP needs money so he has time can work on V5... lol but I don't think that is ever coming out. I think SEN going down on a regular basis requires more monetary attention than a layout change.

Also I didn’t post those links as a statement of how people have changed … maybe I did, but I just thought it was funny.

We don't need donations. Why does the conversation keep degenerating into that?

An ad at the bottom of the topic would seem more annoying, but it would get more views, right? Is that what you're thinking Doodle?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-04-04 at 19:29:20
Well, think of it...
It doesn't disrupt the flow of reading, because by the time you see it, you won't be reading anymore.

And, there are some occasions when people do not read the first post of a page. This would at least allow them to see the ad every time they read a thread.

Hmmm... I'm wondering, what happens if you click those Google ads? I know it brings up a new window or whatever, but what does it do for this site?

$0.05 I do believe per unique click per ad.

Apon reading all the people who complained about ads, I decided to post the names of all the people who complained about ads yet have ads in their signatures. (note: anything that is linked in your signature to me is considered advertisement, including maps.)
Wilhelm ( that includes music )
Do-0dan
Chronophobia (not sure if he was exacly complaining about ads them selfs or just a glitch in an ad.)
S.T.A.R.S-Legacy (Sure I'll take your pay check but i'm pretty sure the ads don't cost you anything, but I'll still take your pay check smile.gif )
I decided to stop at page 5 so If i missed any I apologize.
Now on slightly different note, most sites you go to have ads of some kind on them, sens ads on a rating of 1 being the least and 10 being the most would be a -2 compared to most sites out there.
Check out frihost.com, the guy who runs it called bondings has ads all over his forums but you hardly even notice it, but theres a plus side to a plus side of hardly noticing them when reading threads, he does not force advertisement on your site, and its free. If you think the advertisements on sen are bad please take a nice long look at your own ridiculously long signatures with text most people dont even bother to read.
Also if you stop to think about it, one of the most visited sites on the web is made up of pretty much nothing but advertisements for other sites, yet I bet you guys dont have a problem with it. Wondering what site this is? Its called google.
Just think about it logically, radios have advertisement to pay for their expenses, TV has advertisement to pay for the costs of running the programs you so enjoy to watch, and the internet has advertisements to pay for websites, But I do understand those 4 to 5 minute long commercials can be annoying, or pop up advertisement that never goes away without a blocker can be annoying too, but were not talking about those monster advertisements, Were simply talking about small advertisements that hardly bother you and are smaller then your own signatures so common and give it a break they wont kill you.
