So, this seems a bit weird for me to being doing this. Not even a week ago, I said "fark ads" in response to a conversation about putting ads on a merged site.

For now, I'm just... testing the water. I suppose. Anything generated goes directly back into SEN, one way or another. I know that people clicked that firefox icon we used to have 2000+ times. If each one was a download, that would have been... well... a shiz load.

I haven't coded in invision's core for a while... but those who donated will of course not see the ads once I figure it all out (as promised). And even though I could turn them off for myself, I won't. I'll suffer with you guys smile.gif. It may not be permanent.

[15:03] Merrell: and I still have it ^_^

Yeah.

So there is no real reason for doing this, just testing stuff?

Answer to post #3..

That's what I was asking tongue.gif

Real reason? Like I can't pay for sen anymore? No.

This is lame beyond lame. You're forcing people's hands for donation. Totally unfair.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2006-04-02 at 16:42:52
What? No... because that was a perk of donating that Yoshi stated a long time ago.

I am not donating anything. I might aswell leave.

It has it's logic to back it up, I suppose.

I've clicked that Firefox ad we used to have at least 3 times, and this google add already once because I was curious what it was before you made the news post.

It is also very well strategically placed, under the first post of every thread. The only other time we had ads, it was on top, where people click or read them the least. Here people would be reading and then BAM! and ad they'll almost definetly read. I'd say make that green more like the SeN green so it looks better, that new color just looks wierd in there and out of place.

This is also very random... You can open your server to other communities out there for them to advertise. It will slow down SeN quite a little bit, but it will work if you want it done. Or... you can just ask us to pay for you which wouldn't work since most senners are poor or a minority.

I'll tweak the colors soon...

I'm fine with ads. Just as long as they aren't pop ups. If you aren't interested with ads just don't click them!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2006-04-02 at 16:45:24
If you're going to put ads on the site, why not just deactivate everyone's accounts and then charge for registering? Hmm? Maybe you could even have people pay for how long they're on SEN. This is disgusting.

pffft why not just make the reply button an add
dis is gay ranting.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Golden-Fist on 2006-04-02 at 16:46:22
Could you move the ad to the last post of each thread? After the first one is sort of odd and misplaced.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-04-02 at 16:46:34
The reason most people can't contribute money is because they're kids who don't own paypal accounts.

Also it's "ad" not "add".

I personally don't care about whether or not there's an ad there. If it pays SeN, I'll click it once a day. (Or more if it counts those tongue.gif)

For those who are complaining:

Stop. This isn't your site. If you want one, go buy your own site without ads.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2006-04-02 at 16:46:41
None of you are being forced to do anything. Staredit.net has been adless for 3 years, so you're lucky there. IP has been paying for the server since.. forever? He just added a few things to help him pay.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MapUnprotector on 2006-04-02 at 16:47:06
It's just an ad, you don't have to click it, it's just another thing you can skip over.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2006-04-02 at 16:48:34
Maybe I'll make a store item to disable them blink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-04-02 at 16:49:18
And just to be mean, make it disable ads for only a certain amount of time. ;P

You could atleast put it at the bottom. I'm aware that he's been paying for it, but it won't make me like advertising, nor will it make me support it.

I hate advertising, I hate this decision to put advertising on the site, and I hate that everyone is "rallying around the banner". Remove them, if you have any decency.

Please, guys, it's not something to commit suicide about. Honestly, you'll live. Sure, I'd rather have no ads, but I'm not going to leave SEN because of it.

As long as they aren't popups, that is tongue.gif

Live with it.

No. I know exactly how this works, you're sure that people like this site too much to leave over something like hideous ads, right? I'm starting to understand the mentality of "this site is going down the drain".
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2006-04-02 at 16:53:00
Wilhelm, chill. It's not like there are ads all over the place. It's only in two spots, the google ads, and the firefox ad. No pop-ups, no side-ads, nothing horrible.

Those google ads, when relavent, are actually really helpful. I bought a warcraft III battle chest for 15$ after using one of them. It's worth like what, 40$ too?.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chronophobia on 2006-04-02 at 16:55:06
There was some decency about the firefox ad, but the ad below EVERY first post!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2006-04-02 at 16:55:14
They aren't relavent yet... I dunno what's up with them ;o
I emailed google asking for help.
