Tuxedo.. I cant believe you wasted time making a trailer. (not that there's anything wrong with the trailer, it rocks!)
I think SaLaCiouS(U) is being a little over-sensitive for everyone saying how great your trailer is. I mean, its true that its JUST a trailer and everything and that the map is the real thing you should be waiting for... But when he just went on a rant about that "oh, any newb could make a trailer like that except for the heat wave affect" and "its not that hard to time the music with the scenes" that was just crossing the line.
SaLaCiouS(U), so what if anyone could make a map like that? It rocks! If people here could make maps just as good as that, then why are so many people on SC and BW saying how great it is? Wouldn't it be more like "Oh, cool.." instead of going insane of how close it is to perfection?
It's not about the ability the mapmaker used. It's about the concept. (and the bells and whistles which you talked about)
Let's take one of your own examples, OMFG the ZERGLINGS!!!
The reason its so popular is not just because its fast and action-paced. Here are some of the other reasons:
1. The concept, or goal, is simple (SURVIVE!).
2. Game play is easy enough. (whoo, make marines and firebats... with minerals)
Now, obviously, it didnt exactly become popular because of stacking, great plot, complex scenery and cut-scenes that blow your mind away. Want to know why?
BECAUSE IT DIDNT NEED IT!!!!
Some games dont really need so much detail to make it good. But notice i said good, not great.
Now lets take another example my friend Starmanjr. made, Infinite Shift.
He took this idea from dreigun who created The Pan, which is from 1169's RACERS. Since dreigun hasnt been on much, Star never asked dreigun if he could use the idea. Anyways...
The Game: Your screen is centered on a non-visible obsever and your objective is to dodge fire (dark archons) while keeping your ling in the screen, because if you dont keep him in the screen (the size of the location) you die. Square terrain, center view, center locations on observer and ling... wow.....
And this thing doesnt even have any cool music to it!!!
So why can it be popular? I dont really see anything appealing to it on screen...
Want to know why?
BECAUSE THE IDEA IS USING VARIABLES OFF THE COMP!!!
People - the ultimate source for playing a game.
People decide what game to play.
People decide what slot they are in. (I like being purp

)
People decide where to click, when to attack, when to flee.
But... this game makes an interesting twist to normal play.
The screen is continually moving, so, in effect, your arrow on the screen is moving too even though ur not actually touching the mouse. (dont understand? play the game)
So now, you have to continually correct your infinately shifting arrow and during so, you must navigate a maze of dark archons AND other players. That's not easy at all, making you focus, which may create adrenline rush, making addiction!
Hence this game with so-called "shotty craftsmanship" in other peoples standards in comparsion to ability is
fun.
Now, SaLaCiouS(U), I'm not saying ur an idiot, because you aren't. I just think you just got too annoyed with people enjoying a mini-clip that really doesn't give much info. (its just bells and whistles, with no actual foundation, right?) and how everyone is saying the music is so perfectly timed.
One thing to think about though, is how good do you think movie commericals would be without music?

(some commercials would still be partially good though).
Anyways, as one of the other people said, it's making people talk about it right?
Heck, I just spent about 20 minutes writing this thing for it. Oh well.
I hope this cleared stuff up. Oh yeah, one more thing.
I think i know what he meant in the trailer about the intro text about "I shall return" and those other ones.
Ok, the daemons are the "enemies of peace." Niloc "the hero temp" may or may not be the one talking, but I'm sure his "pets", the Androms, are the good guys, for they created a barricade, or watched a barricade, repel the daemons. Now, Niloc may not be the hero for he opened up a crystal foundation which the Androms walked in. The hero may be locked up frozen in time in crystal. Now, when the Androms were in this facilty and went halluncation and into dark temps, that was to not be detected by the secruity guard. Maybe the androms need to save someone from the humans, which may be in league with Queen Katrina, who controls the extremely large army. But, I wonder who Daemtrius is. (The floating Starports and Science facilities)
This is my view on what the trailer said. (See? I did get
some info. from the trailer SaLaCiouS(U).) And for anyone who doesnt know yet,
A&O is Alpha and Omega.
