A short but incredibly sweet trailer for my upcoming RPG map. I'm aiming to make this the single greatest RPG map for starcraft bnet ever (and coming from me, that's not an idle statement)! You owe it to yourself to see this early peek of what'll be in store. Begin drooling!
Discussion thread. Already I have over 2 months of planning and outlining for the story, world, characters, interactions/dynamics, enemies, etc., if that says anything about what's in store. I'll post character bios, players' weapons/mechan/tool/item system, story and world background, and possibly some screenies soon. This is not the official RPG thread/site though (I'm working on that now.)
Trust me, this is gonna be big. I'll say no more for now, though.
jeez thats a lot of marines and guys >_< the music fit with the whole thing a little..too good =/ (It was scary)
we want story/screenshots/otherstuff that we want

Your gonne be in competition with me. Im also aiming to make the greatest RPg starcraft has ever seen. But knowing me it probably wont be, plus i havent thought of a storyline yet. Do you think i should postpone my open rpg and start it?
I wish i could've heard music.
You're asking me? Bad idea.

The story I have right now by itself would make a killer map, let alone the functionality it'll have involved (aside from the gunner mode, ala Trigger Happy D, all the abilities of the players are entirely new concepts for starcraft). I plan to do it right this time though, so no more experimental crap or FX showcasing nonsense, like all my maps of the past. I'm planning to devote a whole month to tweaking the player functionality system alone.
P.S. I specifically timed the events to the music, hence why you need to play it solo or else itll go out of sync due to lag (even if the game appears smooth, all players have 1g, it'll still get messed unfortunately. Just view it in an empty game.)
P.S.S. This is NOT Trigger Happy Offense. I scrapped that map completely, though there might be a few bits of semblance involved (like the defiler main chars).
My map idea is all about functionality and realism. What i like and lack is a good story. Yes i was asking you. I've answered it for myself tho. IM getting bored with open rpg. To much triggering for to little effect. Although i do wonder if ppl will like or dislike the fact that they have to eat food and drink water.
Very VERY nice looking. I can't wait to see it, I love your maps, Tux.
It's awsome... except the terrain needs some work.
Yeah, definitely, you want to play it alone online, if you do it in single player, it totally messes up the center vision and timings.
Now to praise... lol... it looks GREAT! If you need any testers, pretty much anyone in clan invincible will help, and if they wont, psy and definitly me will help

Terrain? It's a trailer.

The terrain for the real map may end up being completely different.

Thanks for the sig, Macman
lol my names mac so that kinda startled me,
since when does a trailer's terrain look like the games? and since when IS ther trailers for games in sc?!?!?
Since Moogle did it, everyone had to start doing them.

Of course.

I can't let him get away with having a cooler trailer than mine. Besides, I've had this idea in the oven for almost a year, and planning/outlining at full steam for the last 2 months, so I figure this deserves a trailer.
Heh...i wonder if my monopoly map deserves a trailer? and if so... wat would i put in it?!??!?
Everyone knows the Vala and me made the best trailer...
Why are you looking at me like that?
What!? It's true and you know it.
Yeah that is a sweet trailer, I saw it like yesterday, Mathrix showed me it... it was practically orgasmic!! ...I have to clean off my keyboard.
I have to give it to you Xeno, your trailers the.... I mean your really sick.

(SOON TO BE EDITED FOR CONTENT)
Well im replying here because tuxcedo PMed me and wants negitive feed back. *cough cough i mean constructive feed back*
Anyways you make it really hard on me tux when you give me something so neat. But I’ll try to be as harsh of a critic as I can.
First off your preview tells me nothing of the map, You don't even have a map breifing. All i know about the map after watching the preveiw is "wow cool music and wow lots of units". Other than the fact that it is a quality preview speaks good of you as a mapmaker.
You played the roll of put a cool song into your map really well, even thought that’s almost all the map is. But the music fits the OMG THIS IS BIG really well.
However considering how many units you had specifically the marines and such I almost wonder if your going to be making a big map with just 1000s of units colliding like it is something cool to look at. And are you about to max the unit limit cause that would suck also.
As for the preview effects, The first part when your units spawn (with the recall) The recall seems a little small for all those units to be popping out of it. I would suggest maybe a formation of 4 or 5 recalls instead.
Your part where defilers that turn in to dark templars, I don't know what the deal is with that but I assume it was the effect you were looking for. You were not just making a ground blur with a really dumb tactic (cause that would be dumb).
The end part (or near it anyways), with all the marines and goliaths. It would be really sweet if they were all facing the same direction. Of course I understand this may be a pain in the ass but knowing you, you could do it. The other risk is it might lag a bit (or a lot) but it would look a hundred times cooler if it was done. (at least you used snap to grid rather than placing them by hand.)
[/end criticism]
Anyways it is a neat preview although I still know nothing of the map. I hope this is the kind of feed back you had in mind when you Private messaged me.
Hmm, yeah the trailer was pretty vague about the actual map, story, etc., except about the fact of an invasion and something about an army. That's done on purpose, for now.
Anyway, I agree about the goliaths and the recall, now that you mention them, but the unit count shouldn't be a problem because when it comes time for the war part i'll stream them out only as much as the limit can handle, but it will take a bit of extra trigger work to accomplish.
My only real concern now that I think about it will be the string limit, considering just how many scenes and dialog I plan to have so far. I may end up dividing the project up into three seperate maps if I can't fit it all together, which of course will press me to have to extend parts of the story to fill all three maps worth... but oh well if it comes to that.
Thanks for the feedback so far though, Bolt & Co.
P.S. The music, Requiem of a Dream, was part of the LotR RotK trailer, but I believe it existed before then.
