Ok that makes sense...

Thx...

Is 2000 min hard to get or is it not meaningful?

Coko- I have no effing clue who "Fenix'01" is. smile.gif

TheOddAngel- 2000 minerals is immense at the start of the game, but around Rank 10-20 it starts being more easy to achieve. At Ranks 20-30, 2000 minerals is hardly significant. Average money amount at these levels will reach into the 100,000s which is balanced by expensive high-level options.

Fenix'01 designed all those Civil War maps that are set with a single unit or Corps moving around a minor sized screen and when they hit an opposing army or Corps a battle begins with many factors, days of fighting, different terrain, and different objectives.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kashmir on 2004-12-12 at 15:13:18
Ya, fenix'01 is the master of making civil war maps and making the corps. If another corps was nearby but not too close, they would come as reinforcements like 8 minutes later when you really needed them smile.gif

BTW... wil there be any beta or just a taste...? i REALLY want to play this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-12 at 15:42:02
Ya i can't wait to play it...

PS: thanks for answering my question about minerals... Heres anothere question...

You kill for levels... And you try not to get killed for moral... How bout if you caputre enemy places... Mabe like a river port... You get moral as well? Mabe staying alive in enemy lines would give you moral too smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Psi on 2004-12-12 at 17:50:38
TheHunt- Thank you smile.gif

PyroMan- I think an open beta would be an excellent idea. I'll stabilize the current version and release it for a public demonstration in a few days.

OddAngel- Excellent idea, but unfortunately, adding a feature like enemy lines will take too many resources to add into the map at this point sad.gif. Your mention of rivers makes me want to add more water to the map because it doesn't have enough.

Capturing enemy command points gives 20 morale to both generals on a team. Capturing a neutral command point will give 10 morale to both generals on a team.

YAY! I do help smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-13 at 15:58:38
Awsom a way we can see this awsom game!!! biggrin.gif

Ya it is too bad you couldn't add in my idea... But i totaly understand it would take alota trigger editing...

QUESTION:

Are all generals available to both teams?
Are the players on one team allowed to be the same General?

Important Idea:

Make sure you try to disable the idea of backstabing... I don't wana be playing a great game like this and get attacked by my partner because hes a dumbass...

Im sure you could figure out a way to fix it... But make sure it wouldn't be a way of killing ur guy thats almsot dead in order to have nothing change and he gets full hp and stuff...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Daigotsu on 2004-12-14 at 00:28:14
From what I have seen yes both teams will be able to use every general. I'm not sure yet because I don't pay attention but from what I know is that 1 team can't have the same general.

Hyper alliances are funny things =p. Will the beta be protected? I'm anxious to get my eyes on those command point triggers you and I were talking about =D.

Just one thing: although the army training might be more effective than that of Quests RPG, you cannot say it is better, for Quests RPG is a classic, made in the time where people still lived in caves and wore animal skins, and FastJack77 dominated for a while, although not a story-based rpg, it defines "open" rpgs. Good ideas with the general morale concept.

Psi, while i was gone on a "mooing escapade" happy.gif you have shown your early version of the morale system. With very little knowledge of how the map is going to be like.. I find some problems with this early morale system.

1. Wow.. 1 morale per 10 seconds... Is the game supposed to be that fast paced and can the people who play it go that fast? I usually take like 30 seconds to organize my troops and such. Most people aren't avid meelee rushers you know.. closedeyes.gif

2. The Domination Method: Get the sniper, snipe the generals or quickly demolish the infantry until your morale is more than 25 higher than them. Then, cower in your headquarters until your morale goes up to 100 while your opponent's morale stays below 75.

^-Is that thing above Possible? Are computerized units easy to kill to raise up your morale?

In short, yes i think its a little bit too extreme... I would assume the fact that everyone is up to 100 morale because it has to do with the "rigging of the generals" for game play? smile.gif

I just wouldn't think everyone's morale would be so high...

Those expendable infantry are sure some happy campers. biggrin.gif
(Oh yea, thanks for thanking me back in page 6!)

Edit: How come everyone seems to be stunned from shock and don't reply for days when i post something larger than a page?

Edit2: To see the most recent news look for my post near bottom of page 6 read the pages until you come back to this post. We need people well-informed happy.gif

Interesting post, with some good points. Personally i've not brought up gameplay/balance issues, because i've seen no map.

Coko I see your viewpoint upon not judging something before it happens, but this IS a 256x256 map. I was assuming upon judgement from past maps that even if you were to have no doodads or terrain, it would take around two minutes to get from one side to the other if my estimate is accurate. In that time frame you would attain 12 morale points. Have you not seen his detailed terrain?

I guess Psi must be planning on there to be one long constant battle between the two armies. Hmm.. could be that he is making an estimate between the timeframe to lose 3 men and the timeframe to gain one morale to be about the same?

Sigh... sad.gif I guess we really can't say much until we truly see how the game works out by beta testing... soon my input will be more blather than ideas unless Psi can re-update the topics to speak about...

Well coko, since you seem to be the only one responding, what ideas can you think up for the 12 generals: Sniper, Bio-Tech, Mech, Infantry, Technology, Nuclear, Black Ops, Pyro, Plasma, Psi, Disease, Bombardment

Look at my post above to see where you can get information that has already be put into consideration by the creator.

I'm just checking in for LORD COKO THE MIGHTY MODERATOR because I'm too tired to post anything Generals related right now and I don't want my thread shut down. Good day! smile.gif

I'll post before Xmas with an update, and perhaps even the demo, which is slightly over 1/2 ready.

I like that mix, although Nuclear doesn't fit this arena much, rather something Air based. like Fighters.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2004-12-20 at 08:39:05
Sniper:
I say a recon droid like in StarWarsBattlefront... You can use it to call an orbital strike where it is which is the strongest form of attack in that game...

Bio-Tech:
I think this is the one that creates larva... Mabe he can create drones whitch can turn into creep colonies for vision purposes? or mabe turn into creep then a sunken or spore...

Mech:
Air Support... He could get some fighter to fly over and help him out or mabe drop some ammo or something useful...

Infantry:
StimPack... lmao its built into game but it would work tongue.gif

Technolagy:
make turrets and bunkers? just an idea... or get powerups for other people... If you have power ups... Mabe if hes an SCV he could repair things...

Nuclear:
Kinda to powerful... Mabe have him use plitonium mines... lol... Create Toxic waste barels that can explode if shot...

Black ops:
I guessing espionage... Cloak would be nice... Lock Pick (if there are doors of corse)... mabe even some interigation... If you get close enough to an enemy you can kill him and ping the mini map where all enemy generals are...

All the other are prety strait forward... I've alredy typed alot so... ya...

PS: I've been watchign this topic as well...

Hmm... we need more Bombardment ideas... Tanks are good choices.

Well, since i brought up the infantry thing with him being better at the medipack, why not the bombardment general have the carpet bomb better? That would surely disrupt the events of what the correct amount is for all the normal abilities, like the Black Ops general could capture command points easier (horray espionage!) or the Technology general being able to go up the tech tree faster to get better units (of course.) Now I'm just making things too complicated pinch.gif

Hmm what exactly IS Bombardment supposed to mean: seiges? Air missles and bombs? ambushes? Oh well tongue.gif

Quick Update- The command point system is 100% completed, so a demo will be available soon. By "soon" I mean hopefully before Christmas but I want to add some more abilities and generally make the map more presentable, so expect it no later than Monday, December 27th.

My thanks go out to everyone who is contributing, and I will reply to your posts in my next post because I have to get going right now. wink.gif

Sounds awsom more abilities... is that even posssiable seeing as how many abilities you alredy have....

Quick Question:

I dont remember reading this but what system of using abilities are you using? The Gateway System or beacon Systems? Because a Dropship system wouldn' work to well...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Psi on 2004-12-26 at 17:01:58
OddAngel, I'm not adding more abilities than are already listed in this thread, and I won't be using the dropship system. It's a normal beacon/location system. It did result in having to use a million locations, but it doesn't matter because the battlefield itself uses many automated trigger systems that don't require more than 1 or 2 locations to cover infinite locations (like the command point system, and also a "neutral conversion" system that runs when the game starts).

I'm working on the demo right now, aiming to release tomorrow but I'm not sure it will be ready that soon because of Xmas using a day of my time. We'll see.

However, can the player afford to move away from the screen their are on to perform actions over that distance? If its a single action for a unit, then place a location with the unit inside and tell the player to just move it anywhere, and if they do, and the unit is no longer at that location the action happens and the unit is moved back, and that can be done with a Hot Key and click without moving the screen.

Ya coko I think your talking about Fenix's idea with the probes in his arcaria RPG?
