Yep thats the one, its really useful and so easy to do! It can be such a useful technique, because its extremely quick to use, and uses as many locations as a simple beacon and unit, but can only really have one function.

Okay I'm pumped/pissed at the same time I'm pissed because like Torrasque I read every single post! I'm pumped because like all of you I realize this map will be ownage. Kinda makes me deterred from my own map... But anyhow I saw that multiple levels of terrain had been an idea so well I'm empty sad.gif. I want the demo soon! This map seems monumental like HotH except even more so. Psi keep up the good work you must be like Über-Elite Map Maker smile.gif.

Indeed. I couldn't even try to make a map like this, so I must congratulate Psy for his work. Besides, this map will be ownage, but remmember that the demo is only a small piece of the bigger cookie.

On that note, I have been working every day since Christmas, making sure that all of the additional waited time was worth it. Now without further ado, I give you the first official Generals Demo, version 0.4D.

Included in the demo is the very simplest workable version of the game, including all 12 Generals, a reinforcements system with 5 levels of generic reinforcements (of 30, and minus General-specific reinforcements), the completed command point system with capturability for each General, sounds (kept them pretty small), the medkit ability, and a few other features, but for the most part this is a "hollow" version of Generals. There are many things you will notice are missing.

In order to appropriately create the best map I can for everyone, I intentionally left out all of the General-specific abilities, so that everyone could review the core concept of the map and not get too fussy about abilities for this demo. The focus of this release is to give everyone the general "feel" of the map, the environment that this game takes place in.

Here is a list of things that are vital to the game, but are not present in this demo:

- The Armories. These are the "General Stores" of each side, providing ammunition, medkits, and weapon upgrades. Expect this in the next release.
- Interactive game world. The battlefield is also home to a neutral player, who controls various towns around the map. They are designed to be interactive later on, but not in this demo.
- Air units. You aren't going to see a single air unit in this demo. Sorry. (Actually there is one exception... if you get to rank 11, you can use the Drop Pod ability, which is actually installed. However, getting to rank 11 will be very, very boring seeing as you have almost no abilities.)
- And many other things.

Think of this as the skeleton of the game, a base from which to work upon. All of the hard work is over, and it's all downhill from here, sort of. Maybe I'm just being dillusional because I've been working on this for so long. Anyways.

This release is unprotected.
There are 3 reasons for this: 1) you guys can see the triggers you've all been wanting to see, 2) no one is going to bother re-releasing a map this complex, nor will it matter, and 3) I don't feel like waiting 4 hours for a map-protector to encrypt such a f*cking large file.

Played and looked at your map Psi, very well created map. This one hella complex and sweet map. Just hope public loves it much as i do. Im sure most of SEN will very much enjoy your map much as i did. Gj and hope see more progress later on.

It's great! I loved it! well! A part, because most of the thing weren't working (oil derrick, armory...) But ..WOW!! Awesome!

A cool 4th ammo would be Uranium Shells which have a wider explosion range or could take out buildings or something

Do units stop spawning when you build a terran building? cause that seems to happen.

No, I don't know why but after a while, they stop spawning but 5-10 minute later they restart to spawn...Maybe it's a time that you can rest yourself...

I'd like to thank you all for your overwhelming response! Hopefully we can continue to turn this into the best StarCraft map of all time. Share the demo with your friends, family, the dog, your neighbor, and get the creative juices flowing.
Alazyguy- There are only 5 levels of reinforcements in the demo, which means if you get to rank 6, they stop coming, unfortunately. I'll have all 30 levels + unique per-General troops in the next release.

Edit: In case your question was regarding the command point reinforcements on the field (couldn't tell), then that's completely normal. The spawns are 100% random and can often stop for up to 5-10 minutes at a time. Still, you would have to be extremely unlucky for that to occur.

Well then you'll be happy to know that he can already do that! Look at the ability area in the top right when you are a Black Ops General, and you will find that you own a ComSat!

lmao Alright that was an ACCIDENT, I SWEAR. If you look under the Arbiters to the right-bottomish of the map, there are Aldaris units. I was editing their stats so that they could instantly killed anything recalled by the Arbs, and forgot that they shared a weapon type with-- your guessed it-- Mr. Psi. Believe me? wink.gif

And regarding that horrible lag... it makes me sad. I'm thinking about cutting down on the number of command points, possibley up to 1/3 of them being removed, and opening up the terrain more, providing base-building and battlefield opportunities to the Generals, while substantially cutting down on lag.

No!! Don't cut!! You should use something else that a vulture for the timer, such a tank..or scv... make them spawn less often...

Ok I did it, and there's only 2 problems.. it really messes with the feel of the game, and since there are less men, there's less chance to make money. It's very hard to make a steady income now, and money comes in gradually. I don't like that.

I'm going to try my own method next; don't worry, I'm sure you'll hardly notice a difference, and you'll like the larger open spaces in the long run.

My Mech general got stuck at the overlord thing. I'm guessing the teleporting is forced upon all units, not just overlords. And other than the terrible lag, it's a really fun game. Even though I didn't know that generals took opposing beacons untill later in game. ermm.gif Good job.

Yea at first I thought the lag was me playing with my friend who has cable and me 56k but then come to find out its just the map due to unit lag I guess. Its a great map and lag settles down and isnt as bad once you play for awhile longer or at least it did for me. Great map and keep up the good work PSI.
