I literally JUST beat it.

I got to the point where I can go through the dark forest, get the reload-heal, and get out without dying once, as well as never getting hit by the infested terrans.

The first boss is fun, but that recall suction is just evil.

The hardest part I had was DEFINATELY the highway. If you get stuck, bam, you're dead (and pretty much have to start over, since everyone is invincible and it takes way too much time to actually get back there. The Auto-Reload, while it sounds nice, is not worth the time at all. I got it once, and promptly lost due to time. On my first Run-through, I completely skipped the ramp you are supposed to jump over and sorta fell off the overpass. The location seems to have a large section that is on the top road, but should only be available to the bottom road. Either way, it saves time.

The cave is just annoying, but whatever. All games need something like that. I never saw Gargula once during most of my run throughs.

The Windy Chasms are likewise annoying, but I just decided to grab the super katana instead of trying to buy it myself with all the chests. It took a few reloads, but I got it eventually.

My first run-through with the Plains, I beat it on the first try. With 1 second left on the clock. I had about 10 at the start. Those archons are just plainly WAY too strong. I had to slink around the corners and just avoid all conflict. I didnt even care about the science vessels or the incoming rushes. Just the insta kill Archon blast and the 2 hit kill Archon attack. Evil man. After the timer stopped (my second time through, with about 7 mins left), I just went around and killed everything that was left, collected the boxes, and continued on. It would probably be better if everything was destroyed when you kill the spawner.

Those CCs in the massive wave section are evil as well, but at least you didnt put them in with Gargula or with anyone other than just Guards. Gargula is a tad bit cheap at times, but otherwise he couldnt get in any hits. I almost always just left the scourge on the left, since if Garg came from 2:00 through 9:00, he'd always end up on the left side. Apart from redundancy, this part was fun.

Ghost town was easy with the super katana, but the boss was near impossible. The only reason I beat him was because I had an hour to beat him. Way too much time. I think there should be more "high ground" there as well, since I was having a hard time making it there from a respawn in time.

Last Boss: pfft. 10 minutes? Take off 10, then 20, then 30, then it might be harder. Same deal with the Ghost town boss, this had too much time. It also didn't seem fair that the BFG took out 5% of his life every hit.

While I appreciate the BFG working like it was originally intended in DOOM, perhaps it would be better if it worked like it does in the released copy, where a direct hit REALLY hurts, but then if you do miss, everyone near the blast takes some damage. The direct shot is also only about as big as your rifle shot (maybe a Carrier instead of a wraith/scout/hallu), with hallucination followups. Stealing the SFX from doom would be cool too. It's too bad nothing explodes green.

Also, I found very little use for the shotgun. I made it through the game without using it, until I got to ghost town. I quickly switched back to my machine gun, since it killed more ppl faster. Maybe the shotgun could be very strong in the middle, and weak on the outside, or something like that. In any case, the only good spot I found it was in the bridge/forest, where the rifle works just as well, or the highway, where the machine gun works just as well.

That's just my bit of criticism, and believe me, that's all I can say bad about it. Simply put: It's the most original and innovative map I've ever played on SC. Of course, you already knew that. I can't wait for Episode 2 so I can reinstall SC on my computer after I wait 2 years for it to come out.

Haha, well I'm glad you endured my torture map through to the end. Yeah I really meant the final boss to be fought without the BFG, which makes it a bit too easy I think. The boss before it is just to waste your time, literally (as the final one uses an attack that drains your time, as I think you noticed).

Anyway you could read the walkthrough on the site as it has a few tips that might have helped you for a few areas. But in any case I commend you for being one of the few to beat it without cheats or help, really.

Rush Ep.2 will definitely be better balanced, and with the new gunner system (I'm working on prototype 3 at the moment, by the way) things should work much more like a 'true' gunner system. But yes, it might unfortunately take awhile for me to get to it (for different reasons than it did for Ep.1, though).

It'll definitely be worth the wait, though.

If you will beat the map, it will show you in the end. It's CS, Quake, Serious Sam, and some others...

Aww tux I got a bug, I was doing survival mode, and the unit spawns are random right? Well AWFUL circumstances and timing led to 2 mutas spawning last before I equipped shotgun, I shot down 1 quickly, and as I fired the next round, it switched to shotgun, and my shotgun shells exploded all over the place under the mutalisk. The muta went on to kill me, sad.gif
Maybe just add a safety kill all mutas when u switch from rifle to shotgun sad.gif Damn you testers, DAMN YOU. But then again its not a big deal, the chances of that happening are very unlikely I assume, and I juz got some bad luck ouch.

Well you can still switch weapons in the tutorial, you know. tongue.gif But yeah, that's just dumb (un)luck.

Argh, I can't get SC to work again until I can track down my old CDs. Could someone tell me if Rush has any issues with the new patch or not?

Good job.......

This game is going to keep me occupied for quite a while smile.gif

It gets repetitive at times, especially if your bad at it, but not very much so at all compared to every other map out there.

Ok, listen, i love the map, and i have nothing against it, but, the thing i hate, is that freakING CAAAAVVVVEEEEE!!!

*the followings are against that f*cking cave*

I HATE IT! I WANNA DESTROY THAT CRAPPY MONSTER BUT I CAAAAAANNT!!!! I WILL KILL THE freakING CREATOR OF THAT BEAST (the scientist, not tuxedo) I AM GUNNA PWN HIM WITH MY PAINTBALL GUN HES GUNNA SUFFER HES GUNNA HATE ME AND I AM GUNNA PWN THE freakING BEAAAAASST!!!!!!

*freak is finished*

I am still sorry about it, it had to get out, i just hate the cave with the big crap i can't beat, or at least repell, caus a alert like 10 tiles b4 hes here is'nt enough... anyway, i like the game, i dont hat you tuxedo, just that freaking quarantined cave with its stupid teleporting-from-doodads-to-doodads beast.

ADDITION:
K listen, you need tyo give us at least 15 mins for the big freaker ultralisk of my ass, i tryed to shoot him, i tryed to place flares, but I AM SLOWED DOWN BY A FOOKING HYDRA!! AND HE SPAWNS RANDOMLY TROUGH CAVES DOODADS!!!!!!!!!! ranting.gif

So, i wont play the game caus of this freakingly stupid headless pissing off annoying cave

P.S.

rockz is just impressively lucky, i ALWAYS get killed by that freaking gargula, pisses me off caus i love the triggering, wich is useless in the cave, its like a "The thing" 'cept there is only 1 guy against the thing but the thing is as fast as a vulture and the running around guy is as fast as a un-upgraded overlord... disgust.gif

So, final note, (rating from start to the cave) i give it a 7 out of 10 (would be 9 if it whas'nt for that cave...)

Read the walkthrough. Cave shouldn't be hard if you know the trick to it.

Tux, if you keep losing your cd, backup the cd the next time you find it!

Btw, marco, lowering the rating for the difficulty is harsh! If it's too hard, it's more engaging. If it's too easy, then you finish the game or stop because you're bored of it!

Besides, being pissed so much isn't good for your karma, or your health. I beat the cave without that much of a problem.

This is incredible! I've never played anything like it! Well done, sir!

And where is this "difficulty control" of which you speak?

No issues with 1.14, BTW.

And the turret boss seems broken for me--I fired on him as soon as I could, and he teleported away and--never came back. I waited for about a minute, flying the Scourge around to look, and he wasn't there.

I tryed the walktrough, BEFORE sending this message, but, the ultralisk keep being in my way (on the right) it always teleport via a cave doodad that is the nearest to me
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fallen_Knight on 2006-08-30 at 09:13:05
Yes Macro the cave part is quite hard. Most of the the dentonation packs are at the top of the cave too, but if you think this is hard try the turret part I thought it was exreamly hard.

Guess so...

I tried it again, and he disappeared again...then I noticed that he was in the upper-right corner with the gunner. I tried moving the gunner around, and Gargula warped back to the playing field. Odd, but true. Now that that's solved, I just need to figure out how to kill that Shield Battery. I fail at the puzzle game.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2006-08-30 at 23:21:53
Well the best way is to leave a mutalisk alive in the chasms before leaving that area, and then when you return have it "follow" you to the battery. With its bouncing glave thingie, it should kill the battery, and net you the secret. wink.gif
