I literally JUST beat it.
I got to the point where I can go through the dark forest, get the reload-heal, and get out without dying once, as well as never getting hit by the infested terrans.
The first boss is fun, but that recall suction is just evil.
The hardest part I had was DEFINATELY the highway. If you get stuck, bam, you're dead (and pretty much have to start over, since everyone is invincible and it takes way too much time to actually get back there. The Auto-Reload, while it sounds nice, is not worth the time at all. I got it once, and promptly lost due to time. On my first Run-through, I completely skipped the ramp you are supposed to jump over and sorta fell off the overpass. The location seems to have a large section that is on the top road, but should only be available to the bottom road. Either way, it saves time.
The cave is just annoying, but whatever. All games need something like that. I never saw Gargula once during most of my run throughs.
The Windy Chasms are likewise annoying, but I just decided to grab the super katana instead of trying to buy it myself with all the chests. It took a few reloads, but I got it eventually.
My first run-through with the Plains, I beat it on the first try. With 1 second left on the clock. I had about 10 at the start. Those archons are just plainly WAY too strong. I had to slink around the corners and just avoid all conflict. I didnt even care about the science vessels or the incoming rushes. Just the insta kill Archon blast and the 2 hit kill Archon attack. Evil man. After the timer stopped (my second time through, with about 7 mins left), I just went around and killed everything that was left, collected the boxes, and continued on. It would probably be better if everything was destroyed when you kill the spawner.
Those CCs in the massive wave section are evil as well, but at least you didnt put them in with Gargula or with anyone other than just Guards. Gargula is a tad bit cheap at times, but otherwise he couldnt get in any hits. I almost always just left the scourge on the left, since if Garg came from 2:00 through 9:00, he'd always end up on the left side. Apart from redundancy, this part was fun.
Ghost town was easy with the super katana, but the boss was near impossible. The only reason I beat him was because I had an hour to beat him. Way too much time. I think there should be more "high ground" there as well, since I was having a hard time making it there from a respawn in time.
Last Boss: pfft. 10 minutes? Take off 10, then 20, then 30, then it might be harder. Same deal with the Ghost town boss, this had too much time. It also didn't seem fair that the BFG took out 5% of his life every hit.
While I appreciate the BFG working like it was originally intended in DOOM, perhaps it would be better if it worked like it does in the released copy, where a direct hit REALLY hurts, but then if you do miss, everyone near the blast takes some damage. The direct shot is also only about as big as your rifle shot (maybe a Carrier instead of a wraith/scout/hallu), with hallucination followups. Stealing the SFX from doom would be cool too. It's too bad nothing explodes green.
Also, I found very little use for the shotgun. I made it through the game without using it, until I got to ghost town. I quickly switched back to my machine gun, since it killed more ppl faster. Maybe the shotgun could be very strong in the middle, and weak on the outside, or something like that. In any case, the only good spot I found it was in the bridge/forest, where the rifle works just as well, or the highway, where the machine gun works just as well.
That's just my bit of criticism, and believe me, that's all I can say bad about it. Simply put: It's the most original and innovative map I've ever played on SC. Of course, you already knew that. I can't wait for Episode 2 so I can reinstall SC on my computer after I wait 2 years for it to come out.

Haha, well I'm glad you endured my torture map through to the end. Yeah I really meant the final boss to be fought
without the BFG, which makes it a bit too easy I think. The boss before it is just to waste your time, literally (as the final one uses an attack that drains your time, as I think you noticed).
Anyway you could read the walkthrough on the site as it has a few tips that might have helped you for a few areas. But in any case I commend you for being one of the few to beat it without cheats or help, really.
Rush Ep.2 will definitely be better balanced, and with the new gunner system (I'm working on prototype 3 at the moment, by the way) things should work much more like a 'true' gunner system. But yes, it might unfortunately take awhile for me to get to it (for different reasons than it did for Ep.1, though).
It'll definitely be worth the wait, though.
