Java is a programming language. How do you create images in java? With java-programs perhaps, but that's a different thing

lol, no, I'm not quite sure I know what you meant, hence why I asked tongue.gif

Do you mean that you intend to create the image in a java-program? It hardly matters what the software was written in wink.gif

Nice pic; using Starcraft Ghost images adds a creative, yet ironic, flair to it

Oh please, no flash, no java, no shockwave, no nothing - all I ask is just a simple jpg, period =)

nj>Honestly, I don't like the SC Ghost images. DatEdit is for SC/BW, not SC Ghost, after all. Try something else...
I like the title though.

TLF>If you can come up withe something, post it up as well. This way we will be able to see different approaches to the matter. Just stick to 100% static images, ok? wink.gif

I like that one. The SC:Ghost things just make it cool, and I never would have thought it to be SC Ghost until it was pointed out.
Also with just a planet and "DatEdit" seems a bit.. plain.

Ok here are some:

1) Teal Dragoon theme
2) Red Hydralisk theme
3) Space tech theme

But it would be easier if u could tell what image, text and what style u want in the splash screen.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-01-29 at 13:30:39
Yeah, you're probably right: brainstorming won't get us any far here...

First, I'll tell you what I don't want, ok? I don't want any other text except for "DatEdit" (with version number if you want), "Created by BroodKiller (Jacek Kominek)" and the credits for the graphics author's, in the form: "Graphics (or Gfx) by...". The way you put this text around, what font/images do you use - that's your choice. Other than this, I'd rather want some sort of 'collage' if you know what I mean: a mixture of different images (Terran and/or protoss related, if you want to know my preferences).

Found something your not going to want to hear. The x1, x2, y1, y2 values in weapons.dat are messed up. To see what I mean, go compare to an AZ decompication. The marine in DatEdit has:

X1 - 16 Y1 - 0
X2 - 16 Y2 - 0

It should be

X1 - 16 Y1 - 0
X2 - 0 Y2 - 0

That 16 belongs on the next weapon. Compare values with the AZ decompile to see when you get it right. Oh, and I actually went back and started testing what they do, if you remember Xenon posted over at SA on them, but somehow no-one listed. The X1 value is an angle value. It tells if the target is within that angle(16 = 22.5 degrees)

Damn formats.....:/
Ok, looks like I gotta fix this for the next release...but what's the 'true' format then?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-01-30 at 15:34:38
I think that it is 4 seperate variables. That is how AZ has them, and I'm pretty sure it is right. I actually found this out(off subject a little for the next bit) when I was working on SCR before 1.13f came out(the very day infact). I'd been messed up by a weapon that was being used even when the unit didn't face the target. I ended up putting in a value that(since they were messed up) made the Infested terran attack when the attack button was used, even though there wasn't a target in range! Interesting effect, but it wasn't what I was looking for. So, I compared the AZ and the DatEdit values, and *boom* I realized they weren't the same. So, there you go, my story of how random chance revealed an error for a set of underused variables.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll get this fixed. If you go into weapons.dat, they should be the entire set of x1's, then either the x2's or the y1's(don't remember which). The order is in the AZ format file.

Do u guys remember that i told that there is something that crashes my mod because of datedit?well i think i found what it was-i set the portrait to NONE so when clicked the unit crashes the game

ADDITION:
btw i found something else,im not sure if it's a bug or it's supposed to be that way be here it goes:

i was testing some stuff and i wanted to change missle(well lets call it engine)fire
i wanted to change it to red so i set the thing to use special palette...
well the fire was cloacked ingame COOL biggrin.gif

well after that i saw that other units use Unknown9 to apply special palette.is this supposed to be this way or u bugged the names in palette properties?
[attachmentid=17277]

hay did u know that after charon booster upgrades the missle engine colour of goliaths changes to blue - i haven't noticed that all the times till now smile.gif

DoA>I will certainly fix this. If I understand you correctly, then these 4 should just be separate variables, right?
Heh...that's funny, because it was with these variables that I practically learned how to use the bitshift operators, and now it turns out that it was wrong...=D

EvilBeaver>Portrait 'None' crashing the game, you say? I will look into this, because this may actually be true...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kookster on 2006-01-31 at 16:56:09
regarding the 4 variables x1, x2, y1, y2

do these tell what angles and stuff the weapon or unit has to be pointed to shoot? or something else?

if it doesnt do you know if there is a way to make it so a unit doesnt have to face a unit to attack, cause i want to do that.

When it is fixed, or if you want to use AZ, put 128 in for x1. The others deal with where the spirte is spawned/where it points, I think. I'm going to figure them out some time.
