What is a switch?

Switches are covered in the Map Making Tips and Tricks thread, and in the tutorials.

Two places you should have checked before posting.

Switch is a simple 'On' and 'Off' action that is set or cleared to activate a trigger.

[center]A switch is a boolean term for ON/OFF, represented by 1 byte in yor maps CHK data file. If the byte is, in hex, 01, then the switch is ON, or in StarCraft language, 'Set'. 00 means the switch is OFF, or 'Cleared'. Switches can only have 2 states, Set, or Cleared. Just enabling a switch will do nothing in your map, unless envokes a condition for another trigger.
A little advanced?, maybe...

why are you calling yourself advanced when you dont know what a swich is? That's below Avrage level, I suggest you change it, or your going to get replys like this one.

(begin reply to some one calling them self advanced and asking what a swich is)
A swich is a thin peace of wood often used to disciplin things, that is to say hit. It deals little damage against cloth or hair, but delivers a strong sting.
(end of above listed reply)
see? claming to be advanced only means people offer you less information.

like If I were to ask a question I'd probly get an answer like. 'have you tried minimooses meathod? in his QED map, he's got beacons moving all over.'
and I'd know what he's talking about.

I'd close the topic for Flagrent rule violation, but I've got no mod powers.

Don't be so harsh...
There are many simple things that people forget or just straight out don't know. It would have to be something really extreme to have forgotten or not know what a 'switch' is, but thats okay... this community is built to help each other out, not to hate and ridicule...

And if you know so much about being advanced, why did you act so ignorant about it? Its not like theres some ceremony you have to go to to recieve an advanced level, and you knew that... but have decided to just blow him away and make him feel "stupid". If this post were to be closed, it would be closed by an administrator... you have no reason to be doing their work; no need to instigate.

Switches are like light switches, having two main settings: on/off.
Having on or off can affect conditions in the editor, which result in actions.

Edit By Bolt_Head: Wow that was a nice reply, with that note i'l close the thread. Check out Screwed's post for a link to the tutorial.
