The RectangleI am not sure, you my dear readers will have to tell me. After many, many years playing this game and looking at the same start up screen something that had been lurking in my mind for quite sometime finally came out. Was it intentional? Or mere sloppiness?
http://www.kiqjaq.com/onecommunity/bwtitleb.JPGThis is an enhanced contrast by
rsHeaven to make it easier to spot considering that a screen shot will not capture well the load up picture. He had to remove it from the disc and then added the contrast BUT if you load up your Broodwar you do not need this to see it yourself.
http://www.entropyzero.org/onecommunity/titlea.gifThe dark rectangle had been haunting me for several years but as soon as the load up was ready, everything about it would be forgotten in an instant. The first minute entering Battle.net is a wonderful sensation, especially when you been away for a period of time. Nothing like the feeling of that first game after a long vacation.
Still, next load up there it would be again, the black rectangle. For years that is just what it was. However in last few weeks I have been pondering about evil thought that keep tormenting me. you know those thoughts, thoughts about giving up Starcraft. I fight them when they show their ugly heads. But during this period I was able to see things a little more objectively and the questions finally blurted out. What did they erase? What was there before?
Is it possible that Blizzard put up an image of sloppy artwork in their main log screen in their most valuable project? Or was it a last minute mistake? A small cover up that they could not make tidy because it was too late into the production phase? I simply can not believe it is sloppiness on the artist parts. After all the original piece of the image, offered as wallpaper at blizzard, is impeccable.
So I leave it in the hands of our community to ponder about what has been there in front of our eyes for all this time. And yes, this article is dedicated to all those old school gamers who have pondered about giving up Starcraft many times and simply never did. It is for those who are idle and have nothing better to do on Saturday morning than drink coffee and load up! Who remembers
the Idlers?

If you enlarge it and look closely you will see that the black rectanlge was really a band that went across the all bottom
