Ok, this is the first melee map I've ever completed (started many, never finished). I came up with the basic design for the map this morning. I made a pretty rough, but playable verion, and then a friend helped me with it and we both collaberated on it for a couple hours. I give alot of credit to him, he came up with the raised center. He also gave me alot of insight to some balances that were needed. While I dont like doodads very much, he made them, so i kept them. I ended up using the version he made off of my first one (only changes i made was to make center a little wider).
I named it power butter because i saw that in a health store today, and thats the coolest sounding thing ever. I'll probally change it though
Please criticize this map, not a final version.
I know its a problem with only ramps to get to the other side, and i have a feeling that terran can push vs zerg or protoss on whatever side it wants with no big open area to stop them.
and wow it's like 5 am so im going to sleep now. The Unicorns-I was born(a unicorn) get this song now, only reason im awake.

Interesting map. I like the floating island thingies, but you might considering adding one or two more patches of minerals in the cnter to create more of a tension point. Also i would reduce by 1 or 2 the amount of mineral patchs in the close expansions. this would create a sort of need to go into a attack mode.

i might do that because i just realized you can build on elevated catwalk (since when?) terran could just build up on catwalk and hit both expos. My only problem about adding more minerals to the center and making it more important, is how narrow it is. I also switched south center ramp direction, and a thing where scv would get stuck at north 2 min 1 gas expo. And i removed the gate doodads, but im not to sure about that.
Actually i just played this game vs one comp.. hope you dont mind sorry. and the ramps are cool.
they are placed in strategic points and i like the map how it is, i wouldnt change it, i think its done. good job on a great map.

Good, just a couple things i'd like to say.
Melee maps should avoid using vertical and/or horizontal walls/edges as much as possible. It looks extremely tacky. Im mainly talking about your elevated catwalks off to the sides of the map. If you look at it, it just a tad bit odd and sort of clashes with the rest of the terraining on the map seeing how it's just lined up vertically along the edges of your map. I'd make it a little more polygonal or something like that.
Also, the only doodads you seemed to have placed are those that petrude out of the ground. The doodads you currently do have seem to be just randomly chosen doodads and placed together on the map. The doodads sort of fail to spice the map up to it's fullest potential. I like how you did the island ones but i'd add a little more to the mainland. And since your map's name is "Power Butter," i'd add doodads whose theming has to do with energy or supplies. I think you could probably add a couple small patches of solar arrays on some parts of the map.

I hated the catwalks, they are so small. The game we played was very interesting though.
I had made the center much wider, but i picked the wrong version of that map when i played with you.

i worked on it some tonight with co creator sha'zalmo! and we have almost bug free. But were both committed to making this map very good and balanced, so we need to see alot of games played on it. So if happen to play a game on it save the replay for me, would be much appreciated.
But i think ill make a thread in the new forum (if its still there) tommorow evening or night (i get off of work at 6) with a much updated version of the map.
