I didn't spend much time making this, but every base is equally placed so that no one should have a disadvantage. In the middle, there are 2 cliffs and some trees and a WIDE open space to fight (Hey, that's why it's called Open Field Battle
) Also, there are 2 islands on each side of the map filled with resources which you can fight for. I am open to suggestions right now. Remember, this is my first melee map!
Seems like you're trying to make a money map with all those mineral fields containing 50000 minerals...
Now i have two approaches to this. Before i give you one of them, tell me. DO you really want this to be a money map or will you switch the mineral amounts back to its default of 1500?
Personally I like the 50,000 theme. I dont like ladder melee or regular. I dont play it much. But when I do, I love fast games that you can stack up on minerals. Not bad for your first melee map dude.
I disaprove, although I may be a little biased because I hate money maps with a passion.
But looking at it from a tactical point of view it is rigged against Terran. Any money map without a choke makes it almost impossible for a Terran to survive. Not to mention there is no gas expo so players are forced to play with one gyser for a game that could potentially last for a very long time. Nothing quite like those Zealot vs Marine vs Zergling wars eh? This is the kind of map that would encourage everyone to play as Protoss and try to cannon each other; not my idea of a good StarCraft game. The map has potential to be something similar to Blood Bath but there are some essential changes neccesary. I would suggest one expo with gas for each player, make some sort of choke for mains, and for god sake man TAKE OUT THE MONEY!

I guess you do have a point...1 vespene geyser isnt enough. Other than the other 4 at the 2 islands. And yes MA im keeping it as a money map

Ah yes, those 4 other gysers, two of which on the left side don't show up because they are placed too far off the map, and 1 of which on the right side you can't even build on.. No your right, they don't offer much help.
Might want to test your next map before you release it.
Alright, then as a moneymap....
You need more resources, much more. Like vespene geysers, as some people already mentioned. Those two expansion island sites really seem kind of small and are like "Treasure islands." They have more mineral fields and vespene geysers than our starting places. Expansion sites should NEVER have more resources than the start areas. Less or equal amounts are file, but never more. Since you say this is a money map, add some more resources to our starting locations since there's really not many places in which you can expand to.
Those two pieces of plateaus you've got there first, look crude, and secondly, serve really no purpose. Since your game's boundaries and arena perimeters are outlined mostly vertically and horizontally, it would also look and feel weird just to see those two slabs of cliffs right in the middle of the "battlefield." They're also pretty much useless, especially since they both only have one ramp. Only use i'd see would be to park siege tanks or defense structures on top but those places are almost too easy to evade. If you do insist on making plateaus in the middle of the field, at least make it bigger or make it perpendicular or parrallel with the rest of the terraining.
Also, i know it's your first map, but try and avoid the simple terraining job people did with Fastest Possible Map Ever. Those are simple done way to easily and i know you're a much better person at making terrain than some of those douche-bags. If you submitted this to SEN's dldb, the DLDB keepers would reject your map currently as it is because it lacks "creative" terrain and looks to simply done.
But still, pretty good
Hope i dont offend u but... This map needs a lot of work. TOO MANY MINERALS! If u want it to be a money map, just stack 50 right by the start location. another problem, ONE GEYSER? lol what are u doing, i would add add more, maybe in the sides? in the middle, there is are two patches of high terrain, right? on the bottom one the ramp is on the bottom, on the top one there is a ramp on the bottom, i would move that ramp to the top part of it, to even ot the map more. One last problem, well its not really a problem, but this map is too square, its too much like a money map, if u want a money map, take out the islands on either sides and make more battle room, i guess for a first map its.. So so. its inbetween a normal map and a money map, choose one or the other, not both. But seriously, not bad for a first map.
Ok, I removed the vespene geysers at the islands and added 2 geysers at each base. I also made the cliffs slightly bigger and the water on the top and bottom parts were removed so now you have an even bigger space to fight on.
Okay now its good.. For a money map.. Which isnt saying much..
On the positive side, I like the middle area, would provide a good area to fight.
no, i would still take out the trillions of minerals, lol, make it more like 1500 in each one. and you might wann toss some minerals in the middle up for grabs.
These are the kind of things that make melee maps fun, you need things to fight over, it makes expanding a critical aspect, if you dont do it you lose. and its always fun to fight over little things.
It takes skill out of it if you just stay at your base and build everything there. if you wanna do that make a mineral map, go all out for that not 50:50
