I had an error while working on a map, when I went to save it gave the message:
"Could not open file C:\Program Files\Games\Starcraft\Maps\*Map Name*.scx for writing"

Even if I save it under a different name it still carriers the thing. But here's the kicker, it still saves the map..

So for someone who has dealt with this before I just want to know if it will screw me up later, or can I just keep working?

That map is protected and you won't be able to open it with any editor you have.

Okay I'm not trying to open it, I'm trying to save it. And it's impossible for it to be protected because I'm the only person whose seen it at all and I havent protected it at all.

There has been a few topics on this...

This happened when you are testing/playing the game?

Because it cannot save a map when it is being played and the moment. You need to quit first then save it.

Yeah I think that may of been the cause. But this happened last night, and now with no programs other then Staredit open it still gives the same message. I just want to know if it will cause problems later, like if I have to start all over again.

Not necessarily. I've encountered this when Starcraft isn't even open. Click save, when it displays the error, open the map in another editor to see if the changes were saved. When it happens to me, I get the error but it saves anyway.

edit: ge = get.

I don't know what causes that to happen, but i know sometimes it will save even though it says it can't open, but sometimes it won't, so check to make sure before you close the map. Otherwise you will lose whatever you just did. (Which can screw you pretty badly)

I think that you are playing the map at the moment.
Yesterday, it give me the same message and I had to save the map with another name and later, copy and paste.

God, you guys are lazy. You could search for this same problem and find ten threads on it if you had the patience.

Open up your map in WinMPQ. Delete the file "listfile.txt" and quit. Bam. Done. No more problematic messages.
