Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> EPISODE VII : Protoss Campaign
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-02-04 at 05:15:51

For those of you who can't wait for StarCraft II to land with its Episodes VII, VIII, and IX - this is MY version of what Episode VII might look like.
And it's for free!

This is a primitive version that contains only five levels, so it's incomplete. I'm working on the remaining levels but need more feedback. Five levels is a good start. Be sure to check for the closure of this campaign as it is not finished yet. I'll post it on StarCraft.org when it's finished and tested.

I will not post anymore levels unless/until I've recieved a good amount of feedback. I just need to know what people think. If you think my stuff sucks be sure to tell me privately via email or openly via discussion boards. It needs to be constructive criticism though, as I will not tolerate the destructive kind.

->Content:
This campaign version contains five levels:
1) The Path (be sure to run the campaign starting from this level!)
2) The Rescue
3) Burning Ice
4) The Quest for Khalis
5) The Remuneration
.
.
(to be continued...)

>Storyline:
After the tragic death of the Matriarch Raszagal, Zeratul and Artanis were left with nothing but remorse for they have been warned by Aldaris not to consort with the likes of Kerrigan. Little did they know that Kerrigan was planning to betray them and abduct their own Matriarch. She had used them to kill the renegade Cerebrates and she was planning for a double-cross all along.
But now there is another evil force lurking ahead. The Zerg Swarm returns with utmost force, one that is unknown to Zeratul or Raynor. The Protoss high-shaman, Raszdul-Oga, has a theory about the grim events but is unable to uncover the source of evil. The Zerg are after the three crystals of the Xel'Naga. They are seeking the magical powers garnered therein to reincarnate the Overmind. But who is able to control vast amounts of broods in such a way? Who seeks to reincarnate the Overmind if it's such a dreaded foe to all races? Will the Zerg overrun the Protoss race and prevail?

Yes, just remember to select UMS before you play.

Well I'm on the 3rd scenario so far. It's not too bad, but did you test these first?
In the first on the 2 Dark Templar as well as Zeratul remain invincible for the whole game. I beat the scenario in about 4 minutes.

Also notice that in the second scenario it is possible to make a second Dark Archon my merging the two Dark Tempar, you might want to remove that ability.

It seems to have a decent story shaping up, and has atleast some decent Terrain and bases. I would say it's not amazing, but it's the best campaign I've seen on SEN thus far.

Well... I really hope that campain is beta...

-Campaing #3: Orange and Green Zerg aren't doing anything.... They are not even mining...

-Using Transmission is sexy...

-Maybe fix briefing time.. It goes too fast a bit.

Well it's better than thousand of campaign outta here! wink.gif

In the first senario, I just took my DTs and Zeratul and went after the hive. That was the end tongue.gif

-Reply to Yoshi (Mike) da Sniper : I checked 01_The Path , and it occurred to me that I forgot to uncheck the "Invincible" checkbox for the 2 DarkTemplars and Zeratul. I had been using this for testing purposes but forgot to undo it. Stupid mistake. Anyway, the first couple of levels are just a story buildup just like the regular ones any Blizzard campaign would throw at you.

-Reply to Sessase : The Orange and Green Zerg opponents do not start their mining or their AI scripts until a certain amount of time has elapsed. If they do it too early in the game they can easily overrun Raynor's forces and you'd lose the game. I tested for that (Don't use the black-sheep-wall cheat and take the time to actually play the game, unless ofcourse you wish to view the way the map was creatively drawn).
As for the briefing time, I didn't get it. Do you mean the briefing that's in-game or the one the preceeds it?

-Reply to E)s-Fury : Yes, on the second level , the two Dark Templars could merge to form a Dark Archon that has the same name; Raszdul-Oga ...how stupid of me not to think of that. Thanx for pointing this out. I'll remove that ability.

Well, I'm not too big on testing you guys. Most of my time goes into actually sitting down and writing out a beautiful, well-coordinated, and coherent scenario. The rest of my time goes into creatively designing a unique map that suits the scenario. Setting up the players and triggers is the easy task and takes virtually no time at all (which is probably why I'm making those stupid mistakes).

Thanx alot for the feedback. It really did help!!!

If you're looking to improve the GUI of the campaign, i'd create a minor MOD, and place the maps as their counter parts would be in the Campaign screen, ask over at http://www.samods.org/ for help on doing it.

Also, make the maps harder, longer and more enjoyable.

Lol, I liked that

Anyways about this campaign, do you expect to create new units and such by making a mod. In other words like making a 3rd Party Expansion Set?

- Reply to .Coko[CK] : Are you sure you've played 05_The Remuneration. If you were able to beat this game at your first trial then I think you deserve a promotion soldier! It took me about three trials to be able to defeat the computer and mind you I was the map-maker in the first place.

- Reply BeeR_KeG[eM] : New units means sitting down infront of 3DStudioMax and trying to become creative. Sorry, this is not my specialization. Alot of people out there are masters at doing that and I don't stand a chance against their work. I, however, do what I do best. Come up with a good story and draw out a map to match it. I just felt that BroodWar didn't have a very satisfying ending and that it needed real closure. Well, this campaign (and the upcoming ones) will satisfy anyone who felt like they needed closure regarding BroodWar's ending.

If anyone out there has seen my (incomplete) campaign and wishes to join forces by offering to provide a mod he/she has been working on, then they're welcome.

Interesting. On Number 5, though, I noticed something.

Why do I get control of the left Zerg base as well as Kerrigan?

lol, I just stormed Kerrigan to death and let Zeratul talk to a dead person...who he then "kills".

That is just awesome.

I don't think he was able to get Blizzard's StarCraft cinematic team on the line.

Instead he got Customer Support, asking him to "Hold, Please."

This is good!

I really like how small the first 2 maps are. I don't think campaigns need massive maps to be good. Long games don't necessarily make good games?

Maybe you've fixed the dt's in first map.. tho they were taking damage, they seemed "invincible". Ya I couldn't help start exploring w/ these guys even tho it was obvious we are supposed to be building a base! When there was little cloak detection at first camp I continued slashing away. I realized this wasn't how the game was meant to be played... but couldn't help it.

Maybe add some spores/ovies to first map.

2nd map .... ya you can merge 2 dt's (which I did) I thought.. ya you should disable that, but... heck If ppl are as stupid as me let them merge 2 highly effective fighting units for a worthless dark archon. That move almost cost me the game. Only by leading the lings around on a wild goose chase with the dark archon did it prove useful (guess cause it was something visible) Definitely a cheeze move on my part. hhehe

Story is good!

Am on 3rd mission right now... things are getting tuffer! prob should finish game before posting..... but I lost that 3rd mission lol... so gotta head back to it.

All in all good job!

SET NEXT SCENARIO, il you dont have this trigger, after the loose the game, you search again in your PC, to much trouble....

Am testing many campaign yesterday to other Starcraft site, imagine I tcheck a big campaign over 28 missions, the guys forgetten this trigger, and he's scrapp the campaign!!! pinch.gif

And you need this trigger to go next mission after win the first one...

I sure hope more work is being done on this, since I really liked the campaign. And I have some experience with modding, what kind of minor mod are we talking about?

It's not a Mod Problem, it's a trigger problem!
He forget the must important trigger to this campaign, is: Set Next Scenario!!!

I no it, this a good campaign, but if you dont put this trigger to pas a next mission, you scrap you're campaign...thats' why! crazy.gif pinch.gif
