i'm new here and would like to show you my 1on1 melee maps.

These maps are really good, im very impressed by them. On all of them both sides are perfectly balanced (only thing i notice is the ramp directions in caribbean). Suicide kind of reminds me of Bifrost, with the ledges going around on the outside and the center bridges. Caribbean dreams is a very cool semi-island map, don't know what to say about monday ( ill have to play that some first.)

Race balance wise i don't notice anything right away, cept maybe terran > protoss on suicide. But great job on these maps. Come to map night and we'll play. happy.gif

thanks. i'm glad you like them.

don't know, why the ramp faces this direction in the upper base on caribbean. in an older version of this map it used to be the other ramp. huh.gif i wont release an update just to change this, because i don't think it is such a big problem.

i will try to be there at the map night.. cool1.gif

They are all very good maps and all of them are balanced.

Map #1 is the worst of the 3 because there are some cliffs with 1x1 squares on it making it a waste of terrain.

Map #2 is the best of the 3. You got cliffs at the middle and many entrances to each of the bases making army movement very important since you can surprise the enemy quite easily.

Map #3 is the middle map but it does have some disadvantages. Making those cliffs so close to the middle area of the map gives Terran a great advantage using tanks.

fatso: i didn't think that much about my map-making-rank. but i'm still in a phase of learning.. and additionally i hope this will only be the beginnings of my map making.. happy.gif

beer_keg: map #1: these 1x1 cliffs have a good reason to be and stay where they are. becaus they are in a place of the map, where you shouldn't be able to walk or look along with ground units. it makes it harder to attack the natural expansion, like it has been seen on dahlia. i could have used water instead, but that would have brought some problems with the cliffs, that line up with it. so these cliffs where the best way to solve the problem imo. you could can still call it waste of terrain, but i hope you see why i choosed to put it there.

map #2: thanks. finally someone who likes it as much as i do. biggrin.gif

map #3: youre right. this might cause some problems, but i hope they wont be that big, because for it being an air map the main fights wont be on the ground.

i think that the center is very easy for t to push(i think making middle entrance to center a little wider would help), and the island expo needs a 8 mineral patch to stop lifted command centers (although i find gas in the middle sexy tongue.gif).

That last map you posted is quite good and I saw no apparent flaw to it.

wow, all these maps are great.. i expecially like the 3rd one of the original 3 u posted.. i also like the last one you posted too... i'm amazed with your balance of melee maps

I think the challenge (more so for a more than 2 player map) is to make it ballanced and NOT simetrical.

the.pope: i will remove some of the water behind the min only expantion so that the entrance to the middle gets wider. but i wont place a 8 min patch. in my opinion they get overused at the monent and in this case it isn't necesary to block off an early lift off expantion, because it isn't such a big advantage here.

(U)Bolt_Head: but i like simetrical (or mostly simetrical) maps more at the monent, because imo they are easier to handle for players like me, who don't have that much of skill and i'm not able (i don't know if it's possible at all) to really ballace a non-simetrical map. there are always some minor advatages.
