Staredit Network -> Games -> PsP or GBA
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PearS on 2005-02-09 at 00:47:25
IMHO the PsP is amazing. It looks so damn good. Some of the games look like early ps2 games. The handheld is just so sleak and sexy and it is capable of so much. Games, movies, music videos...it's going to rival ipod as the best portable media player device. DS is not much more than a handheld. Ya the touchpad is neat but it isn't capable of what the PsP is.

Sorry I meant DS not GBA. IF you choose DS then vote for GBA on the poll. Jeez i'm dumb =p.

The war has been fought before.

I give you 7 reasons on why to purchase the DS over the PSP.

You'll have to wait until March to get your hands on a PSP, and that is if you are lucky. The DS is available, but it'll still take time to find.

The decision is ultimately decided if you, the buyer can stand playing a system that lasts 3 or so hours and costs $250, with games that cost $50, or a system that lasts 10 hours costs $150 (a huge $100 saving), and games that cost only $30.

I'm not the type who likes watching movies on a small screen. The big screen or TV is where movies truly shine. And for $300 bucks for a music player, I'd get an Ipod that can hold more songs, is smaller and plays with better quality.

I don't have a PSP and I never played it but it sounds better than the Gameboy advanced since I have one and I know it sucks. About the ds, I have to idea.... Never every read about it, I just heared it hade 2 screens, withs I think it too much to look at the same time, aniwais....

ADDITION:
And your point are good too Revelade. It's ture, but I can't fight with you since I only played the Bame Boy Advanced...

GBA? lol. RETARD!! wink.gif

Personally, DS would win. Just cuz it's Nintendo and reputation ain't to make anymore. I'd buy the PSP only for the Final Fantasy 7 movie that will be out sometime later. But that'd be useless since it'll probably be illegally available over the web after 1 or 2 weeks.

I downloaded the showoff video of the PsP and they said that it lasts 8 hours on games and 2 hours for movies. Also you know they will releaase battery packs.

I think you are missing the opint. It is an awsome gameing handheld that does a lot more than just games. It plays movies and music. So if you would pay 300 for something that plays only music, rather than 300 for soemthing that plays games, movies, and music...you are wierd. And you say that ipod can hold information. So can PsP. Thumb drives can plug into it. BLAM. So what that watching a movie on it isnt as good as being in a theater....its a damn handheld.

QUOTE(Gamespot)
The short answer is that it depends on what you're doing. The longer answer is that Sony has stated that the battery should last around six hours. With simpler-looking games, like Lumines or Mahjong Fight Club, that definitely seems to be the case. But with more graphically intensive games, like Ridge Racers, the battery doesn't last quite as long.Based on our estimates and a few battery-draining tests, Ridge Racers seems to last somewhere between 90 minutes and three hours.

You can play graphically intense games for around 2 hours, our play some tetris for 6 hours... but why would you play simple games on a psp is beyond me.

I would get an Ipod for 3 good reasons. First of all, the Ipod is SMALLER, so I can fit it in my pocket easily. Second, it is cheaper to get an Ipod than a PSP for music, the price is NOT $300 for an Ipod. Third, I can hold lots of music OR other files with Ipod's 10gb or so amount of space than PSP's pathetic 32mb memory stick.

I wouldn't want to watch movies on such a small screen because you have to be up close. I prefer movies when I'm relaxed and big so I can see details a lot better. Not only that, but movies, which take a lot of memory to play will only last at most 2 hours. I'm going to pay $250 bucks for a system, and $50 for a movie that I could watch in bigger and better quality with my dvdplayer and tv at home... right.

The PSP costs $200, nice reaserch. A whooping 50 dollars in which you could buy a useless copy of a game, like Super Mario DS and Metroid Hunters. Not to mention you have to get a protective screen thing for the bottom screen for DS unless if you want it to look incredblie scrathed and ruined from jabbing it with a pen all day. The prices for PSP games haven't even been told yet, way to spread false rumors there.

I hope you know an Ipod costs $300 dollars, you know what else costs $300 dollars? A F*CKING COMPUTER. Which can do more then play music. Also the Psp can play music, games, and movies, Ipod can only play music. The computer can do all the things the Psp can except better quailty, maybe because the computer is so f*cking large. Again, PORTABLE. So some things have to lower quality, yet the PsP is the same size as the DS and has noticeable better graphics, huh.

Yeah nintendo may be good at games, but chances are there are at least 12 sony items in your house, TV, Games, Moniter, Computer, Sony even funded Spider Man 2.
Nintendo has just made games for about 20 years. Also it's dying out, if you haven't noticed.

What's to point of holding files that you can't use? Ipod should only be used for listening to music. Also not sure if you noticed but when Ipods first came out they were $300, now time has passed and they lowered the price, Psp will also lower the price in time.

When did I say this, and what the hell does Xbox 2 have to do with a PSP or DS? I just said PSP is coming in March and that the DS, though available, is sold out at certain stores.

I was referring to the bundle pack as I can't find a unit that is being sold by itself at the moment. If you look at this page:

http://www.gamestop.com/default.asp?sect=1268

You can clearly see the games being sold for 49.99. I'm sure you will want to purchase a memory card as well, and that may bring the total cost to around $300 anyway.

If you look on this page, you can CLEARLY see Super Mario 64 DS being sold at 29.99, which is nowhere near the 50 dollar price you suggested. The question is, where are YOUR sources? You DON'T have to jab at the screen as you say, there's something called the d-pad. I find it amusing how you, a non-ds owner are complaining about a touchscreen when those who DO own DS don't. For the record, the PSP has had more defects than the DS.

I don't understand why a computer is brought into this argument. What did the computer ever do to you?

It is true that the PSP has better graphics, but the fact is, you lose more money, features, and battery life, at which point, the PSP just is not worth it.

I don't have to own it, i've played it all the time at GameStop, Best Buy, etc. When I go there the screen is shattered, and if you've ever played metroid hunters you HAVE to use the touch screen to look around, unless if you want to strafe the entire game.

Xbox might take up more power then the Ps2 does because of it's better graphics, which just adds money to your bills, but that doesn't seem to bother them.

QUOTE

Not much of an arguement. I'm saying that Sony has made A LOT of things, in which nintendo just makes games. If you say "Nintendo" a lot of people will reconize that. If you say "Sony" same amount of people will reconize that. Same goes with Microsoft, they're all equally known. Nintendo has been around longer, which doesn't make it any better. Final Fantasy has been here since the dawn of time, that doesn't mean it is always 100% good to everyone.
Wow, here's a cookie.

QUOTE

Currently the DS is carrying the Nintendo Corp. IN AMERICA. If you compare what the Ps2 Sold, Xbox Sold, and Gamecube Sold. The order of best sellings is:
1. Ps2
2. Xbox
3. Gamecube
However in Japan it's
1. Gamecube
2. Ps2
3. Xbox
But seriously, how can you NOT know that Nintendo is dying out.

Wow, sorry for double post, but I just got a DS today. I went to EB Games, traded in 6 Gamecube games and with an addition 80 dollars, I snagged one of 6 DS's off the counter. The thing is not as portable as you would think; it makes a big bulge in my pocket. I'm anxious to buy a game like Wario Ware DS so I can test out all the features like the microphone and other stuff. The touch screen is great, but you have to press it in slightly more than a tap to have it register your movement. I was surprised to know that there is a light on/off feature so you can EXTEND battery life more than 10 hours if you play without the light. Also, GBA games look even better on the DS and you can decide which screen to play it on as well. The controls for Metroid are somewhat awkward, but I bet it'll be even more frustrating try to play a FPS on a PSP. Well, that's all for now, I'm currently having fun with my GBA games... I wonder how PSP works out...

DS needs some better games... hopefully amazing titles come out this year.
