In regards to: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=10448

I was wondering if we could make a few torrents of all maps on the site. If anyone doesn't know what bittorrent is, it's basically a p2p file sharing program where people can host their file from their computer and others download it. As more and more people download the file and leave the program open more people can download the file with greater speeds and with less bandwidth to everyone else.

So basically, if 4 people have a 20 megabyte file with all the same bandwidth, 1 person downloading the file will download 5 megabytes from each person.

The only thing needed to do this is to rar/zip all the files then create a bittorent file from it and upload it to a website with a tracker. If you guys don't want to host the tracker on SEN, then I could do it from my own computer and keep the torrent files running while making periodical updates.

It's all fast and easy to do, all I need is all the files in the dldb. And I don't have easy access to them. (to download them fast)

What do you guys think?

It's an excellent idea, but only 1 problem?

How would you restrain people from illegally submitting/downloading music and stuff like this? In a way similar to Kaaza's problems.

Don't allow torrent submissions, you can completely control this.

I don't think torrents would be popular enough. There are not too many people downloading maps at the same time, Besides, none of our files are so big that we need to put them in torrents.

For the effort it takes to explain torrents to n00bs and deal with the problems, direct download is much better.
