Probably better than previous maps. Please comment

Edit: I had to go back and put gysers in so the jpg is not totally acurate.

I really like the layout of the hills, however I don't really like maps that are exactly symmetrical. The open land during the middle also does not invovle much strategy except seeing people mass hydras over it. I like the rivers and hills and narrow ramps which allow players to use terran tanks effectively.

yea, i dont like symmetrical maps either, and yours is square which is why you made the ramps at the bottom two bases in an odd manor. Umm, nect time you make a map, dont make it square, also, players dont need that much space outside thier bases, try adding small miner/vespene patches by the middle of the map for people to fight over.
Not bad for a first try, it kind looks like a map i made for war craft 2 when i was 8

It looks a lot like the Warcraft 2 map called Opposing City States.

The map has pretty much no strategy at all with all that open land. The only 3 relevant strategies I would see is to build on the cliffs for defense. Take a strong hold of the massive chokepoint in the middle or go for mass air.

I see that it's quite balanced but the ramps leading from P3 and P4 are way more defensive then the ones coming out of P1 and P2. I also see that P1 and P2 have 2 temple cliffs whereas P3 and P4 have only 1.

The map is quite balanced but there is no revelant strategy to it because there is almost no terrain with which to work with.

[COLOR=red]I only put 1 temple cliff on the botom players because they had the ramp part thing. I will make it better and re-post it. Got ideas for it?

It's imposible to make the bottom ramps liek the top ones.

But you can make the top ramps like the bottom ramps easily. Just add the same amount of land to the bases and then place the ramp in a similar way to like the bottom. That way it's a bit more balanced.

What about strategy and stuff like that?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2005-02-18 at 21:24:56
By strategy I mean areas that can have lots of strategic importance to players like the following:

Players will always fight for control of chokepoints
Big middle areas will make big battles int he middle of the map
Lots of cliffs will make Players tend to camp in those cliffs
Non-land accesible expansions will promote more use of air
Small roads will make them important
Bridges are nice chokepoints
Expansions available to all players will always cause players to battle them out

O.k. here it is.

Now it looks like a money map, make some of the mineral patches alot smaller, and don't give every expo place vespene.

Also, just remove some of the expos.

Add doodads, and spice the terrain up, put odd things in odd places, be creative!

It looks good but like Beer said there is not a lot of strategic locations. Anyways, I have a question:

How in the hell do you take a screenshot like that????

Please answer the question helpsmilie.gif

Try using SCMDraft 2 v0.4.X
Theres a feature that enabled you to make screenshots like this one:

yuor starting location shouldnt have more than 8 mineral patches, your expos shouldnt have more than 6. way too many geysers/ expansions. remember just cause you have minerals somewhere doesnt mean there needs to be gas.

ok ill fix it up and post it again.

Those figures leave room for argument. I find no problem in giving 7-9 patches in the main and 7-8 in the expansions. Just so long as I only include a single geyser, it's no problem.

Anyways, most of this has already been said, and probably stated more elegantly, so I will now retreat with grace.

I guess it really depends on who you are and your prefrences.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cnl.Fatso on 2005-02-22 at 10:53:01
Absolutely. However, the viewpoint generally shared by the SEN public is that money maps are crap. Our disdain of these maps is parallelled only by that at Battle.net on the forums there.

Ah, what the hell. Pretty much everyone who bothers to post on this kind of forum is disgusted by those perversions of SC.

True ill probably fix it for the public here and mabey the current version for other people. That way everyone is happy.
