Staredit Network -> StarCraft Editing Related -> 2 unknowns inside patch_rt.mpq
Report, edit, etc...Posted by bajadulce on 2005-02-19 at 14:10:58
I am working on a project that deals exclusively with patch_rt.mpq. Recently patch 1.12 has added 2 files that aren't listed in my data list used in conjunction with Winmpq.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, other than examining the hex code,
how to decipher unknown files inside patch_rt.mpq?

thanx, baja

Hex editing is a good way to determine the extension of the file. Check out this page for more info on MPQ name breaking (has a program for it too): http://zezula.net/en/mpq/namebreak.html

Hey thnx a lot... am looking at page right now! Lots of really good content here even if the answer isn't here I'm heading in the right direction. Thnx again. w00t.gif

If I do figure out the 2 new files
one is 154kb
the other 1kb

I'll be sure to post the names of these files so others can add them to their MPQ data list.

I think I'll try that too, my WinMPQ makes everything on the disc and stuff in two maps all unknowns. It really sucks, sad.gif

Maybe you can update WinMPQ's listfile once you find out. There's probably tons of new crap in there, since the listfiles we use are probably about 3 years old.

Ya you'll need a listfile for Winmpq. here's a good one right here
updated listfile now current for 1.12b: [attachmentid=5389]

Also don't forget to let winmpq know where this list is!

Select "file list" tab within "options" tab.
add this list.

This list pretty much covers everything... you should be seeing everything now.

an update on the 2 unknowns inside patch 1.12:

the larger (154kb) file is a battlenet background pcx. rename extracted unknown to .pcx extension to view... Still trying to crack "name" tho

the 2nd smaller file has to do with minimap. haven't discovered its extension yet. you can add .txt to extracted file to see the "minimap" clue.

ok definitely add to data list when discovered.

the pcx is called:

glue\Battle.net\Backgrounds\RegisterEmail.pcx

the other one:

rez\MiniMapPreview.bin

DONT ASK HOW I GOT THOSE. Somehow they were in my listfile that I dled from zezula's website O.O

I actually didn't get any unknowns when I opened mine. Because the (listfile) in it was already updated to include rez\MiniMapPreview.bin and
glue\Battle.net\Backgrounds\RegisterEmail.pcx. Maybe because I haven't updated to 1.12b yet...

Crazy!.... I spent like 2 hours to finally crack rez/minimappreview.bin... and I just gave up on the pcx! crazy.gif

Wierd how you would have a list for something that never existed? maybe it's because WarcraftIII uses this same name "rez/minimappreview.bin? and you had that list?.... However or wherever you got that list...THNX big time.. my project can now be completed.

I think the list at zezula's might have been updated since? I updated the list file I posted earlier.
here it is again updated w/ this new information. [attachmentid=5389]

Awesome the power of networking THNX!!! w00t.gif

Here is your answer: [attachmentid=5403]
(Note I believe you must have a green name in order to do this.)
