Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> ProEdit Saving: Why the delay?

The "saving file" window has been up for over five minutes now. I admit my map is big, but GUEdit doesn't take more than a minute on this computer. I chose to overwrite the old filename without editing anything, though I have a backup map.

GUEdit's protection apparently sucks. People have told me it would take less than an hour to crack it's protection. If proedit hasn't done anything in 1 hour, then I would assume it has crashed.

I like to use starforge 2.2's protection because it takes less than 1 minute (although I am not sure if it's protection is better than proedit).

I mean that I opened a file and told it to save yet ProEdit's saving window never seemed to change.

This is a glitch for ProEdit.
When you are saving, ProEdit freezes. When it does, it is saving.
While that frozen time, you click something other than ProEdit, it will cause the "Saving" box to stay up. So when ProEdit unfreezes, you can close it and everything will be fine.
So I usually don't click anything else when I save things for ProEdit.

I can unlock maps locked with GUEdit, SCMToolkit, ProEdit, and Starforge without hexing or working on it for more than 1 minute.

But yes, Starforge is the best so far.

Hmm I have two questions. Keep in mind that I'm not a PC person (mainly because I'm on a Mac) or any sort of know-it-all when it comes to any of the map editing programs out on PC.

1. When compressing a map in ProEdit, why is it that all the other options except the "normal compression" one crash ProEdit?

2. When compression and saving is complete, is the map supposed to be 50 kb larger? It went from 350kb to 400kb.

Recycle your strings by selecting all of them and doing the
Recycle "Selected Strings" before doing any special compressions.

Or your own protection in combination with ProEdit or SF.

THis happend to me ONLY when I locked a map using starforge 2.1. Starforge 2.2 has yet to do that to me (if it ever will).

This was because SF 2.1 added one to the width of the map, which seriously messed with staredit and certain other programs. I didn't realize it would have the negative effect on the minimap, and the feature was removed in version 2.2.

You can open any map that is playable by SC with certain private versions of SCMDraft, I'm sure. If that's not what you mean, please let me know so Clokr and I can work to prevent map stealing.
