You can request minerals once for something creative. Such as, you say "Since I made a signature, you can donate a few minerals to show your thanks 
".
Saying something like "MINERALS NOW OR NO SIG" is what is against the rules.

Not really, new members might see a post like "you have to give me 30 minerals to get help" and do so. That's what is against the rules.
