where can i get a file/program that will protect my map so that ONLY i can open it and edit it.
When you protect it, you save it as a different file than the original so that you can edit the original, protect it again, and play the protected file.

SCMToolkit found in the DLDB. But I suggest you take Legacy's advice and create an unlocked copy then perma lock your public copy.
i recomend pro edit, i use that, or you could just use starforge.
He wants to be able to open and edit them afterwords. Why do you suggest proEdit if it only locks maps?
sorry, didnt see that, yea then definately make backups of the same exact file. thats what i do
Use our file backup system, make a backup of your map.
You just had to say that did you lol. I would find burning it to a CD far more relyable. But then again i guess if your a packrat and use random CDs as coasters then that might be a good idea, after your hardrive fails.
I was wondering too so that was a pretty good question
ADDITION:
well I made a few maps but they all sucked so i stopped
Just to finish this, I will explain fully. The protector in StarForge has three defgrees: Staredit Compatible (no protection), StarForge-Authorized (can only be opened by StarForge with the same name pass and email in the settings), and Final Release (fully protected). Now ProEdit protects it six times (hence protection level 6) and it removes the strings associated with comments, wavs, locations, etc. So it not only protects your map but it makes it smaller with fewer strings. I havent used SCM Toolkit much, it is a rather rudimentary and early program and I suggest ProEdit over it.

This is the answer to his question...Did no one else know this?
I didn't realize it worked, I've always been iffy about SF protection cause none of the versions up to 2.1 worked with its full potential. Does it work with 2.2?
As far as I know, yes. As a side note, the autosave files will be unprotected, so if something does go wrong you should be able to recover most of your work.
The autosave file? You mean the .bak that isn't really a backup file.
There are 3 editors you can use to protect your map, GuEdit( Not recommended ), Can be unprotected by the unprotect map program, The starforge protect system, You could use it, But it's not all that great, And finally ProEdit (Recommened) It is the best protector out there today.

What's that supposed to mean?
Proedit's protection is more complete than Starforge's, but SF's is the only one where you can restrict everyone else from opening it without having to enter a password every time.
thanks to everyone, my map is safe, lol.
