I think Tazzy basically said, "It's good, but it sucks."

So you got a symmetry thing going, okay, that I can see... but symmetry only guarantees balance, but not strategy. The whole point of doodads is not just glitters and icings, they actually add to strategy. Ramps, trees, etc., etc. ...

You your saying I should add doodads?

Your terrain shouldn't just be the same thing over the whole map. Also, the starting locations of the top players vs the starting location of the right players. If the players start with Spot of player 1 and 2, Protoss would have a great advantage over Zerg as said in the guide to melee mapmaking. But there isn't much room to micro causing an advantage in Zerg. So I'm not so sure this map has he best of balancing. It also lacks key features in terrain.

you didnt make high ground sunken ground ramps variety, no doodads. Its better than your other one but not by much.

i wouldnt go that far glytcher.
6/10 you dont need symmetry, i dont like that in a map, go for balance but not symmetry and PLZ PLZ PLZ add variety for god sakes

1: No room for proper micro of melee units (ie almost impossible to do a flank except maybe at intersections if you had drop ships and the enemy had no air at all...

2: Same terrain all around the map makes for a very dull gaming enviroment

3: Nothing here is new, it looks like a typical money map only without the money...

4: There's only 1 expansion per player, in a zerg vs terran game there is no way the zerg could win (zerg typically expand all over the map whilst the blob slowly wrecks havok, all the while waiting to get to hive stage with 4+ expansions running) there is no way lurks and fodder could be used creativly on this map...

5: Not a whole lot of room to build =/

Maybe my standards are too high from playing wgtour maps =/

Some people would find this map good, Other will not. it all depends on the player... Me i cant play these sort of maps.. But meh not my style of melee... happy.gif

I would give it a 3/10 wink.gif . Firs of all I hate symmetrical maps, thats not a big problem. All you did was use the SAME tile for the whole map with no doodads or anything to make it look interesting or appealing. Make the terrain more.......cool. Also most of the maps I have seen from you don't have the starting locations for the players so I don't know where the bases are. Also its a pretty small pic, PLEASE, all you people use THIS program to create map images, they are much more informative and people can comment the maps better based on "bigger" images.

Here's my first "official" melee map (no wait, it's my first melee map, period). The picture was taken by TileEdit.

It kinda skipped out on everything EXCEPT the terrain.

Just to make it easier...

The 4 starting locations are each located in the large patch of snow in the 4 corners, respectively. Minerals are sprinkled on the rest of the snow patches. Vespene geysers are located near the Water terrains, excluding the border of water around the entire map. The larger messed up pixels are ramps. There are a few small messed up pixels, just irrelevant doodads. I did place trees, they're just in semi-random but symmetric places.

happy.gif I realize this topic is to help Puni but I might as well show something I made too for comparison and whatnot.
