Like the Title says, what Kind of things would you like to see in True Rpg Maps?
Anything you say in this Forum is Legit, and the Answers are to Help Map Makers all Over SEN and etc.
For Myself I like to see these Things In a Rpg

-Intro that Makes you Wonder and Guess
-Intriguing Dialogue
(Not simply, uhhh, or duh, or Enemies come Let's run, etc.)
-Music for Different Moments throughout the game
-Advanced Triggering
-Diversity in Gameplay
-Well Done Cutscenes
-New Things and Systems that're new to Map Making
(This isn't required, but it's always cool.)
-Boss Battles that not Only Make you have to think outside the Block, but make your run around as well
-A UNique storyline, Something different then:Here's the Hero, he has friends, town attacked. Kill Bad Guys. Beat Bad guy Leader, the end-etc.
-Turn Based Battle system, with a Step Amount Battle system
(Battle By #of steps)
-Skills used in an Intresting way, instead of Having a Skill where You Summon Units, why not make a Skill that Dispels enemies Spells?
-Terrain: This is something not everyone can do Great, which makes rpgs long and for Experienced People.
-Multiple StoryPaths and Endings-Clear enougn?

Hehehe That's a Long List, But it's My list of the Things I like in Different rpgs,
Now If only some Skilled Map Maker would Make a Map with all of those.....

You really should have made this a poll.
Well, what classifies a good RPG from a bad one, to me, is a good storyline. This partially has to do with the text in it (i hate spelling errors) but mainly its with how the characters fit into the whole overall scheme of the world. The deeper the plot goes, the better the RPG. wink.gif Really cool cut scenes / fight scenes add to the coolness factor to.

I want complex cutomization, like the entire world... as well as being able to change ur person with a REALLY REALLY COOL system, and a I'd want there to be a bound in it.

Ok, I've Been gone for awhile because of Modem problems, but i used my sparetime to slap some ideas into a map idea, and i guess ima use an old Game as my basis and just add more action twists in it.

Even tho I'll be using A regular jungleset terrain, it'll have some of the other nice features listed above, like Music tones, drama, Rising Action, Climax, Complexity, and A new Level up system.

As For Rpg Mapping in general, let's get some people to post more ideas, and show just what it is we're trying to do out here with all these rpg ideas!

P.S. I've been gone for awhile....so tell me....What Happened to Karma?

Well one thing that i would like to see in Unique rpg maps would definetly be to have when your fighting a boss, to be able for the boss to cast certain spells. I think that would be pretty cool

An old yet true motto sayeth thus, "Make what you would like to play." This is why I joined the effort to finish Fate & Destiny.

Bah, i would want all those things you said in a RPG, but one thing i say you can't leave out is a storyline. I mostly play RPG's because of a great storyline.

I'd like the ability to skip cutscenes.

Originality.
Kill/Cash, UP, kill/Cash, UP, defeat boss, end of story; is pretty much becoming a classic.
Though it's hard becuase you don't get much power in starcraft mapping.
I'd like to see some puzzles in maps, which you have to solve.

Kenoli's maps were excellent examples of those puzzles.

tbc is something that will make your rpg famous if you can make it work great
make the "monsters" roam around and if u touch it with your character, BATTLE SCENE smile.gif

also, try to make bound-like obstacles for the character outside of battle scene (Golden Sun is excellent reference)

What i like most in RPG's are

1.) Characters, different storys' bout each and every character, giving more then they show, and about there background, and each chactar has sumthing uniqe and intresting to say

2.) Definalty the story line, i like to read people's story line's and what they have imgained with there minds, its just unbelievable what people come up with.

3.) Quests, I love quest's , Quest's to me are the coolist thing, not only are they unique, but they share a self, feeling that you bring when you do a quest with other people, and finish the quest together is just awsome.

4.) I don't like name lapping in RPG's, its so gay, and stupid, -- but what i like is, each unqie color to sumthing important, like Information - Yellow, Units - Green, etc. etc.

5.) Definalty the Terrain, like i was browsing threw the terrain, thread and there was just so much awsome terrain that i wouldn't even have considered the thought of making. but now im inspired by that and I will make a rpg soon.

6.) Music, the music has to be good, and intresting for each place, because music is the feeling that brings to you if the place is bad, good, haunted, etc. etc.

7.) Probably, the Main characters background, not much people have a good story line about them mainly just (The queen has been takin blah blah blah, now "Name" has to go find her " i want some detail about the guy who i am playing, like what was his past like, was he a poor boy, looking for some food every night just to feed his tummy, or was he a strong little boy, who like'd to play with sword's and train to become a master in fights and has seek'd unfaithless feeling, until the queen has disappeared, now the faith is back into the soul of the boy. "somthing like that ^.~"

8.) Place's to go, do you just start at top of the map and go down ? (lame) or is there variety of caves and cities and dungeons and hole's to seek and discover new islands with your friends.

9.) Monsters, are the monsters good? are they just easy, are they unqie? do they conseal power?

10.) The ending, the ending better be good, . ALWAYS! .

I have many more. but so far i will only post these. Lol

Love always:

A storyline. Definately a storyline because I like movies more that games, but movies have no interaction, and they are too damn short. I play games like movies so I'd like a storyline. Then, there needs to be a BIG BIG TWIST in the story.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-04-11 at 11:46:32
Some people may disagree with me, but I think:
What people want most out of an RPG is for it to be short.

This doesn't apply to singleplayer RPGs.
I say this becuase it is really annoying when you have a really good RPG, like brothers of hean (I think that's what it's called, but it's the #1 dled RPG on SEN). But it's meant to be played with four players, it takes an hour to dl, and you can't play it singleplayer.
However RPGs like crash RPG are really popular. It has no story line, small map size, and goes by in about and hour and a half. But people still like it, becuase they can play it with their friends without having to go through battle.net's annoying save thingy and it won't take up their whole day.

EDIT: Never mind really. I guess the above just applies to stupid people of battle.net.
The same kind of people who play stacked cannon D with unlimited mins.

m.r.bob, It's Legacy of haean (I think that's what you're talking about). You don't NEED 4 players, but it's easiest with 4. And you can play Single Player, just don't be Player 1 (Players 2-4 work SP).
As far as downloading, it didn't take me more than 2 minutes. What kind of computer do you have?

And this topic has helped me extremely with the development of my up-coming RPG. So far I'm trying to impliment:

-Intro that Makes you Wonder and Guess
-Intriguing Dialogue(Not simply, uhhh, or duh, or Enemies come Let's run, etc.)
-Music for Different Moments throughout the game
-Advanced Triggering
-Well Done Cutscenes
-Boss Battles that not Only Make you have to think outside the Block, but make your run around as well
-A UNique storyline, Something different then:Here's the Hero, he has friends, town attacked. Kill Bad Guys. Beat Bad guy Leader, the end-etc.
-Turn Based Battle system, with a Step Amount Battle system(Battle By #of steps) (Still not sure on a lot of triggering for this; as in how to have a Turn-Based system for special battles, and a real-time system for just regular fights).
(Eventually, I will have it so you can start off as 1 of 2 players. They meet up mid-way in the Story, but from the first ½ you get to do unique quests and hear their side of the plot).

In order:
  • Variety --seeing the same things over and over gets old fast
  • Originality --tired of the same jungle/badlands-kill-lots-of-stuff-then-big-guy maps
  • Storyline --enough said
  • Everything else...

Originality.
That is very important.
I don't want an 'Rpg' to be "Pick a unit, Zlot Swordsman, Zergling Dwarf/Wolf/w/e, or Firebat Alchemist, now, go and kill the evil dude and save the town that's not even getting attacked".
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Neiji on 2005-04-13 at 23:07:49
I thought every RPG was you go around killing a world of evil ppl that got there and just stay there the whole game.

Here is the usual storyline:
There is a peaceful town. Evil demon lord comes summons demons. You must kill him. Sometimes tehre is a crystal or something involved you need to collect.

You know how many times I've seen this?
Dark World RPG (THE WORST NOT EVEN RPG!), Deleas' Corruption, Daegor's RPG, any other RPG (99%)
