PS2 has a variety of games because everyone found it easier to make games for it than Nintendo/Sega. Now that the X-Box is out PS2 actually has some competition, though. Not enough to really do anything to them, however.

IT'S LOG OMG! Ren and Stimpy was the best!
Anyway, what you say was true... but the Gamecube is the easiest to develop, with the Xbox a bit behind. The PS2's Emotion Engine, is difficult to develop for compared to these 2.
Part of PS2's success comes from it's release date and the bonehead idea of using cartridges on N64. In the future, Xbox might be victorious since it is being released at the end of THIS year, unless Sony plans to launch this year as well. Nintendo's Revolution is still a big mystery, and may introduce new ways of gaming. E3 will be big this year, no doubt. However, I won't spend more than 200 bucks on a system... so no PS3 for me.
Best system? It all depends on preference my friend. I prefer a few amazing games to a library of mediocre titles, so Gamecube is my pick. I like to play Resident Evil 4, F-Zero GX, and Soul Calibur 2. Nintendo also has creative titles like Donkey Konga with the Bongos and the awesome RE4 Chainsaw Controller.
I could have picked up the PS2 since it has some great titles like Gran Turismo 4 and Tekken 5, but the controller is very awkward in my hands, since I have trouble keeping my fingers on the R1/R2, L1, L2 buttons, WHILE gripping the controller. Xbox titles don't interest me, and even if you people say HALO 2 OMG!, relax, I already played it with my friends, it's no biggie for me. However, I do envy Rallisport Challenge 2, Ninja Gaiden and possibly Forza Motorsport.
