We'll I havent been on this site for a long time. So i dont know if this has been asked or talked about before so bear with me if it has been.
I think (as well as some others) that the humans are the Forerunners. I thought about it then did some research to see what other people were saying. It makes sense to me because the Moniters in Halo and Halo 2 call you the Reclaimer. Re=again. So that means that Guilty Spark or Penitent Tangent recognizes the human race. Also why would Regret have gone to Earth thinking that there would be no humanity unless it was somehow related to the Forerunners. Some believe that Earth is the Ark where the other rings can be remote detonated. That is why Mercy said Truth is going back to Earth "to finish what we started." The only way that humans could be Forerunners though is if there were some far enough away from the activated ring and then after went back to Earth. This way they could start all over without having to worry about the Flood. They left survivors just in case they needed to activate another ring. And over time they rings were forgotten and humanity started over.
I know that someone is going to say that humans cant be because the Covenant learned about their plasma technology from the Forerunners. Well that wouldnt matter because the human race started over. They probably wanted to forget all about the Flood so they got rid of all technology that reminded them of the parasite.
So why did the Covenant find out about the Forerunners and the rings and clues left behind? Myabe just in case the rings needed to be activated then someone else could do it.
Its just an idea but it would be a cool idea for the plot of Halo 3.

I've always believed the same thing myself, on the other hand one question has always botherd me with this, why would the covenent attack the Humans then? If the forerunners gave the covenent their technology and made them powerful why would the profits declare that they were defilers of their religion and try to wipe em out?

The real question is what the big tentacled thingy is, and what its plans are. For all we know, it's a ForeRunner.

i like the idea but i dont think it's true (even though it could be for an interesting story)
the thing is, if humans had that much technology and left the radius of the rings and came back later, its doubtful they would just start over completely, they would have some technology and not start all over
also, its doubtful the convenant would actually attack the "forerunners"

i think the big tentacled thingy is the original/father(or mother) of the flood and he watches the action from some sort of a "Halo Hell" and intervenes when needed, i didnt pay too much attention to some of the later cutscenes, but i think he said something about "his children", which, even if he was a forerunner, might still mean the flood

i believe the humans are the DESCENDANTS of the forerunners. which makes more snese then the 1st thread. Like the children of the forerunners. The Huge tentical thingy is basicaly the Flood Father... He gave birth and controls all the flood... His name is Gravemind...
I dont think the humans are the foreruners... Although it could explain why the place that can detonate all the halos is on earth...
If i had to guess anything is that they are desendants not actualy the foruners

I believe that we are descendants of halo forerunners. But then it does not make much sense because the forerunners got whiped out to try and kill the flood. Somehow I guess some made it alive.
I think cortanan is going to betray us. Look at the scene with cortana speaking with Gravemind. Just a tiny suspicion.

Ok descendants makes sense. and as for the gravemind, hes not the 'father' of the flood. if you look in the halo 2 concept art book he is characterized as being a compilarion of flood bodies. kind of like how the cerebrates merrged together to form a new overmind.
the descendants theory also helps explain why the covenant attack the humans: they dont know that they are the descendants.
if the forerunners were so smart, why didnt they just cause the rings to fall into a sun? that way all the flood on them would die. i guess it would have been a waste then to build the whole thing...
and in both halos we still dont know how they were released. i think that in halo 2 the heratics let them out on purpose. that plan sucked...

Hmmm, maybe it's all some giant prophet conspiarcy, becuase the prophets seem to have some hidden adenda, why else would they get rid of the Elites? I think the prophets are behind the hatred of the human race, which are "forerunners"

in the halo books i read forerunners also built the armor for the elites to. i believe that theory, but maybe is that there's another race of humans who was in a different planet other than earth and construct halo and research the flood. also they maybe more advance than the humans on earth this is just a guest.

I thought the forerunners just built the plasma tech adn the shield tech. And my theory as to the prophets getting rid of the Elites: the death of Regret was used as an excuse by Truth because he found something out. Which is why hes headed to Earth. And that ship is not the Ark.

maybe the forerunners werent like normal humans but instead were all like master chief, ie. geneticle engineerd and crap (assuming they were humans) also the whole idea of humans being forerruners is mainly based around guilty spark calling MC reclaimer, and the such. MAybe Guilty spark didnt know what the reclaimer was suppose to look like but just asumed MC was becuase he came right after the covenent released the flood, also obviusly the covenet were reclaimers becuase they let the flood out.... also one more question? why ake halo sooooooo big if it just a test center for the flood, has to serve some other purpose.

I never said Halo was for flood research. I said that maybe the Hertatic Covenant relesed them for their own research. And why couldnt the forerunners kill the flood? Why cant Halo kill the flood?
