Q. What's better SCXE, SCMDraft, or (forgot the other one, sorry)?

A. It is a matter of personal preference, it appears however that SCMDraft will supercede the other two one tridedit is functional. Not sure though.

heh i read it somehwere on the forums.

i think the other one was starforge.

The other one is Starforge, and it is probably my favorite. I use it and the original editor, as I dislike SCMDrafts constant backups, filling up my map areas. SCXE never actually worked for me. I like Starforge mainly because I can make cool terrain, place sprites, and create triggers. I hear that SCMDraft is upgrading sometime though, and it sounds pretty good.

I'm not sure if you can disable the backups, however
f3
*.bac?
ctrl a
shift del
y

and they are gone smile.gif

I love the backup system because sometimes I make a huge change that I really didn't want and it would take forever otherwise to get it fixed, the backup system saves me and I can retrace my steps. However in SF it only makes one backup every so often.

How about allowing people to choose where the backups are stored and toggle the feature alltogether. That way if people want backups, they can spam them to a folder specifically for .bac files, or if they dont, they can disable the feature altogether.

The problem I see with putting them all in a single folder is that there would be no easy way to split maps which have the same filename in various folders.
currently scmdraft has 2 backup systems, once autosave every 5 or 10 minutes, to filename.autosave, and then everytime you save or save as it backs up the file you overwrote, so if you save major changes you didn't want to make you can restore or if you save as over a file you wanted to keep you can restore.

Just enable them to choose if they want to or not, shouldn't require too much coding or editing of code should it?

allowing people to choose to have all backups go to a single folder with an ambiguous naming scheme is a half way measure, I wont code anything without there being no room for errors or someone will complain again...

however I have an idea for how to do it which would require a fair amount of work but which would be quite cool.

By quite cool, you mean allowing many options i'm guessing?

no, not really alot of options, but cool and ingenious none the less...
it would have 3 options
CODE

+enable autosave
+enable backup
 +max number of backups

thats plenty
