A large list of RPG cliche's is always a nice thing to look at

These things are hilarous and true:
"Block Home. Towns are always completely safe -- those wandering monsters just don't feel like coming inside for some reason."

"Block Home Rule #2. Nobody cares if you just walk into their house and start talking to them as if they were family and not some strangers with weapons. "

"Blues Brothers Rule. The heroes are always right, no matter what they do. Whatever side the heroes are on is the good side. "
(CoughCoughFF7CoughCough)

"Collapsing Castle Law. Major enemy hideouts (especially the final dungeon) always collapse when you beat the dungeon, even though there is absolutely no physical force that would cause them to collapse. "

"Dead or Alive. Characters and enemies can have 1 out of 2500 HP and be perfectly healthy, but as soon as they drop to 0 HP, they suddenly die. (exception: Kartia) " (Fixed in FFX :/)

"Groundhog Day Rule. Townspeople remain in the same place, doing the same thing, the whole game."

"It's A Small World After All. If you think about it, most RPGs take place in an incredibly tiny world with only a few cities and a surface area less than the moon. The same applies for towns -- they have about six houses, tops."

AHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
SOOOO GREAT!

Yeah - I saw that some years ago. I found it funny and then went off RPGs for some reason. sad.gif

Funny list... Most of them are true, but the one game that I've played that seems to avoid most of those cliches is Morrowind (by Bestheda Softworks). Every other RPG, EVERY other one, uses at least 20 of those cliches on the list.

I'd still like to point out this applies for EVERY damn games ever made.

As far as I know, you do not visit 2398 towns in Halo; You do not give the slightiest #$(* about your own health in sport games, and you could hardly care less about the thousands of people dying and "resurectiing" again in FPS games...Sheesh.

Halo has a reason though.
It's a nearly self-sustaining environment inhabited by non-intelligent lifeforms.

Also, for some more funny listiness...
Funny
Sorry, this isn't the original list, I tried Googling it, but that was the closest I could get. It's missing the 101-228, which are not in the actual list and are instead accessed from a link on the main site, but oh well.

This may only be in Final Fantasy mostly, but my favourite was always the old 'Elixer in the Clock' trick. biggrin.gif
