I'm just curious, did anyone else get a letter about how some Xbox systems were packaged with a recalled power cord that can apparently start a fire? You can order a free new one, but it turns out that you have to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping. Screw that. Anyone else in this situation?

i ordered one and it should becoming it 1 to 3 weeks (i ordered it a week ago) my xbox needs it cuz my xbox is from october of 2001 i think it was... its so old and it will think a disk after maybe an hour and 30 minutes of play is damaged or dirty for no reason.. So i shut my xbox off and play again after i let it rest or a minute and its fine...

I had that same problem with my xbox as n2o-simpson. I got my xbox on the release date. (November 15, 2001)

n2o-simpson, if you are feeling adventurous, you can simply take apart your xbox and clean some of the parts more specifically the laser in the cd drive. I did that and I haven't had any "can't read disc or disc damaged" errors since. No fires from power cords either wink.gif
I wish I was the first to experience the fire, then I could sue microsoft for everything they own wink.gif

I'm going to be getting it soon too.

You guys know of course, this by no means solves the problem. All it does is prevents your xbox from catching fire, but the problem still will exist. Your xbox will fry and be unusable, it just wont catch fire at the same time.

They didn't want to spend the money to recall the defective xboxes. They're corperate morons.

I did. I don't understand though I have never had a problem with my cord. Why then? Oh my bad I didn't read the letter.( whilst typing I read the letter and found my answer)

I'll have to get one since my Xbox was manifactured in 2001... pretty far from their 2003 limit... But it's only 1 on 1000 who started a fire, so I don't really care but I'll get it just in case. My cousin already got his and its a weird big thing with like a reset thing or some other weird buttons dots.gif . bash.gif
