Yes... of course.
Look at any of the bigger Mods. That should prove to you that it's MUCH more than merely possible. I could do it practically blind folded.
*thinks for a sec*
All that I typed is true, assuming you mean what I think you meant. As in, you're wondering if it's possible to change the stats, sprites, voices, etc to that of a Probes...

Can I change the ENTIRE unit for my one map? I want to change voices, stats, shape and everything. Mainly i want to get rid of a usless hero and put in another type of probe.

And then would it be possible to let him build certain buildings and not others?

Alright, lemme make myself clear...
YOU CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE GOD DAMNED UNIT
YES, YOU CAN CHANGE IT
You can change stats down to the level of Upgrade Types, Attack Ranges, where the Attack Appears, and a hell of a lot more.
The only thing I'm unsure about is whether or not you can make it build. Everything else you can do. TAKE A FREAKING LOOK
Err... I got kinda angry...

As he said, you can change any unit to be any other unit.

BUT, this is called modding. And in order for everyone to play the map with the modded heros, everyone must download and run the mod on their version of starcraft.

ok... so i can do all that... but not as a piece of the map.... ok i think i get it... so basically i really cant change the unit unless i have people DL a mod first... i think i get it. tongue.gif

Um... Hello? can we all say "StarGraft"? just remove buttons from Reg Probe and add to hero probe. simple as that. you could even add new buildings by changing special buildings.

Um ... Hello? Can we say MAPPING Assistance? It's not possible to do that in maps unless you use StarGraft to make a mod. It's then called modding, not mapping. And no one wants to go through the trouble of installing a mod just to play a map.

If its a long and good map i would happy.gif But as far as using all the tools, its not as easy as some make it out to be... you need to tinker with it and understand what your doing before it becomes easy.. took me a couple of hours or tinkering to figure everything out, but in the end you can create an infinate amount of new units with new attacks and abilities.

Well, the new abilities part is misleading. You have to know ASM for that, and that take a long time to learn.

For "simple" things like making a probe hero, you don't even need to replace an existing hero. You could replace one of the unused units instead.

True, well the only real adivse i can give on it is learn it.. master it... and once youve become good at it... you can then open up a whole new set of doors on starcraft map making and modding.

How can you use unused hero spaces and where can I get a GOOD mod??? helpsmilie.gif

Check Infoceptor for mods (http://www.infoceptor.com). They had a good selection I remember...

As for the unused hero spaces, check Campaign Creations (www.campaigncreations.org). There's a lot of tutorials there, and plus, their forums is more suited for modding purposes. We're more into mapping than modding.

EDIT: Stupid spelling.
